The historic El Rancho Hotel and Motel in Gallup, built by Joe Massaglia in 1936 has been featured in loads of Hollywood movies. The Western-style hotel is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and features wagon-wheel headboards and suites named after famous Hollywood Western stars. Even if you don't spend the night here, at least pull over to check out their epic lodge-inspired lobby, which has loads of antiques and Native American decorations. The onsite restaurant also makes a delicious enchilada and tasty margarita. (PHOTOS - Tatiana) Stepping into Hotel El Rancho is like stepping back in time to the 1930's, when Route 66 first started to gain popularity. The lobby is all Southwestern motifs and native stone and wood, and the rooms are just as vintage. Even if you don't stay the night, grab some enchiladas and a drink at the bar and soak up the history.
The reason Route 66 became so popular was because it crosses some of America's most unique landscapes. The USA RV Park, just off the historic road, is a great place to soak up some of those old-school road-trip vibes. A nightly BBQ, a multitude of activities, and well-kept facilities are a great reminder of why road trips are so much fun. (AIRSTREAM)
