I finally got a job with a living wage and it comes with a six week summer break. So I'm grabbing opportunity by the horns and taking an epic road trip - solo. I will see wondrous natural sights and good friends along the way, maybe even make new friends! Also, I'll be camping out of my car, which is an adventure by itself.
My title is inspired by the first Oath of the Knights Radiant from Brandon Sanderson's Stormlight Archive books. "Life before death, Strength before weakness, Journey before destination."
I'm starting my journey at Davis Mountains State Park. I was last here 2 years ago and the stargazing is absolutely stunning. The birdwatching is pretty killer too. I am familiar with the park already so it will ease me into the rest of my adventure. Addendum: Going to visit a few days earlier than originally planned so I can join my BFF for a star party at McDonald Observatory for her birthday. Update: Campsite reserved
The first National Park on the list is Big Bend. I didn't get to go last year because I had a cruddy job and needed money for dental work. Going to sink my teeth into it now.

My last time through this area of Texas, my road trip buddies and I weren't able to get a campsite because of spring breakers. We ended up in Monahans for the night. So I'm trying again!
Camping is $8, FCFS
I haven't been this way through New Mexico since I was about 13 on a family road trip. My grandfather was chomping at the bit to get to Vegas to gamble. We didn't stop here. Well now, about 17 years later, I will.

First stop of the day, will be a quickie. I want to at least hit a nature trail to see morning wildlife and use the morning sun for photos.
I was going to make this a quick stop until I saw people raving about the stargazing. I am always a slut for space. Will practice some astrophotography.
