Traveling in style doesn't have to break the bank... especially if you travel smart! November through January is the off-season for some of the most popular travel destinations in the country: prices in spots like Hawaii, San Diego, and New York City (just to name a few) drop off a ton during their off-seasons, and you can take advantage of these deals. Here are some of the country's coolest resorts in cities that see lower prices during the winter.

September through December is one of the "low seasons" for travel to Hawaii, which means lower prices on flights and resorts like The Westin Maui, and smaller crowds! Plus, the weather in Hawaii never dips below 60 or 70 degrees, and even though winter brings some rain, you'll rarely experience more than a quick afternoon shower.

Take advantage of the deals and book a room at the Westin Maui Resort and Spa. It offers all kinds of relaxing treatments, epic excursions, delicious dining, and more... but honestly, you'll have a hard enough time pulling yourself away from their fabulous waterpark. With palm-shaded grottos, hidden whirlpools, and monster slides that offer views of the resort, you could easily spend a full day swimming and sunning in the balmy winter weather of Hawaii.

Big Sur is another locale that experiences a drop in price during the winter months. Temps will hover around the 60 degree mark, which is still pleasantly warm, and, once again, you might get some rain... but let's be real, the rocky coast of central California looks pretty darn good shrouded in morning fog. Plus, the fall and winter are the best times to see migrating monarch butterflies and humpback whales!

Since you might be spending a little more time inside on your winter Big Sur trip, you should make sure that you get some extra cozy accommodations. Post Ranch Inn is the ultimate Big Sur hotel: there's an infinity pool, a hot tub perched on the cliff, yoga and stargazing classes, a world-renowned onsite restaurant, and... tree houses for rent!

Late fall and winter are a sweet spot for trips to San Diego. Get in after the end-of-summer tourists and before the holiday visitors, and you'll find amazing deals on hotels, whale-watching, and lush greenery from the mild temperatures and rain. Plus, there are all kinds of fun events going on during this time of year: the Food and Wine Festival, Beer Week, and holiday light displays are all worth checking out.

Looking to get a lot of bang for your buck during your off-season trip to San Diego? Look for a deal on a room at The Lodge at Torrey Pines. The world-renowned golf course, craftsman-style, natural-looking architecture, and forest and ocean views make it one of the city's nicest resorts. Enjoy San Diego's laid-back and stress-free lifestyle by hitting the links, enjoying a luxurious treatment from the spa, nosh on fresh and creative California cuisine, or just wander the stunning grounds!

Fall is a great time to visit Vegas for a few reasons. First off, the burning summer temperatures start to drop off, and secondly, because prices tend to drop off as well. Tourism starts to pick up again around December and peaks around New Year’s, but late summer through early winter is a great time for some deals. Feel free to use the money you'll save on your flight and hotel on the slots!

Of course, since this is Vegas, there's no shortage of great hotels. The Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino offers tons of bang for your buck... it's located on bustling Fremont Street rather than on the Strip, which still gives the Vegas experience, but at a better price. Oh, and it has, by far, one of the best pools in Vegas, complete with a waterslide that goes right through a shark tank.

If you're thinking about visiting Austin, aim for any time between October and February. As with Vegas, the cooler temperatures are actually welcome, and you'll even find some really fun festivals going on... which could mean crowds, but they're definitely worth checking out.

For extra fun on your trip to Austin, try staying at Lakeway Resort and Spa. It's a little outside the city, so you can experience the beauty of Texas Hill Country, and it's on Lake Travis so you can enjoy some fun lake activities (even in the fall and winter!) when you're not exploring the city. Lakeway has some awesome amenities to take advantage of, including three pools, a top-notch spa, luxury villas for rent, and a calendar of awesome events.

Charleston, SC

November through February is a great time to visit the quaint city of Charleston, South Carolina. Temperatures dip into the 50s and 60s, which means you'll still be able to enjoy a stroll on the sand... and since it's when the high season starts to wind down, you might even have the beach to yourself. Plus, Charleston is super famous for its incredible foodie scene and rich history, and fair weather isn't required for eating good Southern cookin' and visiting museums and historic sites.

If you're looking for a nice hotel, the Vendue Inn is a great option. Made up of converted 19th century warehouses, the rooms are modern and cozy, and it's in a killer location downtown, not too far from the waterfront and some of Charleston's best restaurants and attractions. Plus, since you'll be visiting when the crowds are thinning out, you won't have to wait for a seat at their epic rooftop bar.

The Outer Banks is a favorite summer beach destination for those on the East Coast, and it shouldn't be too much of a surprise that prices plummet in the winter. Sure, some attractions close, but overall, the North Carolina coast in the winter is a great destination for a quiet and relaxing vacation.

For an extra relaxing off-season trip, stay at a resort like The Sanderling. The rooms are elegant, many with balconies and patios, and they even have an indoor pool that you can use if it's too cold for a dip in the ocean. Add in some spa treatments, and you've got a recipe for the perfect getaway for unwinding!

4.1

New York, NY

A trip to New York can get pretty expensive pretty fast, but visiting in the winter, during the offseason, can help cut down on costs. Yes, it'll be chilly, but on the bright side, you can take advantage of ice skating at Rockefeller Plaza, the holiday decor, Christmas shows, and more. Plus, you can use the money you're saving by visiting during the winter to take a cab rather than walk if it gets too cold!

Staying in a conveniently located hotel, like the Hyatt Union Square, can make a huge difference, too. It's close to subway stops, and since it's in lower Manhattan, it's also pretty near a lot of popular tourist destinations. Plus, the modern, updated rooms are clean and comfy!

Every destination's off-season is slightly different, but it won't require too much research to find a killer deal if you're traveling at the right time. It's worth it, since you'll be able to stay at some of the country's ultimate resorts for less!
