Overview
Raleigh was named for Sir Walter Raleigh, the famed English soldier, adventurer, and poet. It is the capital of North Carolina and home to North Carolina State University, the state's largest university, as well as two historically black universities (Shaw University and Saint Augustine's College), and two liberal arts colleges (Meredith College, which is a women's college, and William Peace University, which recently became coeducational.)
With a plethora of things to see and do, Raleigh is a wonderful place to live, work, or visit.
In September 2011, BusinessWeek.com named Raleigh "America's Best City" citing the restaurants, bars, museums, educational institutions and sports franchises as quality of life perks.
