“One of America's Top Seafood Shacks”
The Marshall Store has had two locations and many incarnations during its 136 years of existence. It first started at the Marshall Train depot, as a general store (with a poolroom), located where Hog Island Oyster Company stands today. The Store also served as the bus stop for local Tomales Bay kids. Then it was moved to where the Marshall Boat Works used to be, and was run by Jacqui Villich. Kathy Krohn later turned the Store into an eclectic café full of terrariums filled with turtles, rare frogs, and koi and hanging plants. Her sign: “Best Oysters on the planet” drew customers for seven years. Tod Friend, Heidi and Shannon Gregory and Kim Labao now own and run it as an oyster bar, serving creative and delicious fare in a superb location overlooking the bay’s harbor. Shannon, an Australian native and French-trained chef, runs the kitchen and includes smoked meats and varied seafood dishes on his menu, but has kept the original Rockefeller dish that Kathy once made so popular.
