“scarred but standing”

The Lone Cypress is a Monterey cypress tree in Pebble Beach, California. Standing on a granite hillside off the 17-Mile Drive, the tree is a Western icon, and has been called one of the most photographed trees in North America. It is located between Cypress Point Golf Course and the Pebble Beach Golf Links, two of world's best-known golf courses. Possibly as old as 250 years, the cypress has been scarred by fire and has been held in place with cables for 65 years. The look of the tree changed significantly when it lost its leftmost branch during a storm in 2019.

Massively underwhelming, feels fake. Don’t waste your time or money.

The 17 mile road is filled with awesome scenes however this lone cypress is one of the most iconic ones! To be honest I personally am not sure why?

It is definitely a cool spot but there are other beaches and beach scenes here that are better in my opinion!

All of 17 Mile Drive is a massive bummer. It's this beautiful beach on one side, with gorgeous rocks and sights like the Lone Cypress tree, but then it's totally marred by the giant golf courses and the huge walls hiding the mansions that have the best views. Honestly it was just super depressing, because again, it is super gorgeous, but all the development around it like the golf courses and resort just ruin it. It's a waste of money.

Big Sur is the way to go if you want gorgeous views without the depressing luxury golf courses (because seriously, what a way to ruin an entire ecosystem...)

Plenty of people taking photos of this if you hit it midday on the weekend, since this is THE icon of THE 17-mile drive. Take the drive for the drive's sake not the tree.
