“Camping on the scenic Tims Ford Reservoir”
Tims Ford State Park has 20 two-bedroom cabins with double beds, 12 channels of DirecTV, gas fireplaces, full kitchen, and outdoor balconies. The minimum reservation is for two nights, but on holidays it is extended to three nights. During June and July, there is a 7-10 minimum, depending on the cabin. The campground at Tims Ford has 52 sites, accommodating both RVs up to 40 feet and tents. Two of the campsites are ADA accessible. There is a dumping station at the entrance to the campground, and there are two centrally-located bathhouses, with hot showers, lavatories and commodes. Campsites are available year-round for a maximum of two-week stays.

Confirmed by 2 users | Last reported on August 15, 2023What a shame! It's easy to see this park was once beautiful with scenic trails and nice campsites and amenities, but those days are gone. While the campsites are still pretty nice the rest has declined. Shower / restroom buildings are badly deteriorated and need to be replaced. Trails are strewn with leaves and tree limbs and rickety picnic tables adorn many campsites. Water faucets often leak and power outlets are worn and frequently heat due to the loose connection. Park staff ride through in shiny pickup trucks but don't seem to do anything to care for the park. The drive to get there requires traversing narrow, winding roads with frequent sharp curves and no shoulders. I'll go there again simply because it's close to home, but it badly needs some renovations.
We camped here in a tent while on a road trip to the Jack Daniel's Distillery in nearby Lynchburg. Getting here was no problem in our pickup truck though it's best to follow signs from Winchester or Tullahoma and ignore your GPS.
Staff in the Visitor's Center was friendly and helpful. We went in, chose our site and came back to register.
Campsites were mostly good with level gravel pads for your tent. Some sights were a level down the hill from the roadway but had steps to get down to the pad. Our table and fire ring were in good condition. Not all sites could fit larger RV's but there were a few Class A's and longer travel trailers. Campground was not crowded, mid-week in middle of August so you could choose the best sight for you.
It was super quiet and peaceful. There was a pretty good network of trails with a paved path adjacent to the campground. Newsletter notes some interesting ranger programs though we didn't experience them.
Have to agree with previous review that restrooms were pretty bad and need to be torn down and replaced. Didn't notice leaky water spigots, they looked fairly new to me. We did not use the electric hookups because we only had our tent.
I used the park wifi for basic surfing and it worked well with the few campers that were present.

Our adventures recently landed us at Tim's Ford State Park. It is located in Winchester, TN just across Monteagle from us people over here on the east portion of the state. As far as the campground itself, it is a pretty basic campground that is out in the woods. The sites are shorter, but they are spaced out a decent amount. It's not a huge amount of room, but you aren't crammed in like sardines in a lot of them. There are a lot of hiking trails in the area, but we didn't get to use any of them because it was a decently rainy weekend that ended with some snow flurries.
There are a lot more activities to do in the summer as a lot of this park focuses on the waterways that surround it. There is also a pool that looks like it's probably a nice area to relax when it's opened up. It's late January at the moment so of course we aren't swimming. There are playgrounds for the kids as well as a premier golf course for the big children that are into that sort of thing. The golf course is supposed to be great and I've talked to many people that go there and they all love it. It is a bear trace golf course. They also have cabins to rent if you aren't feeling much like camping.
As far as the sites at the main campground there are sewer hookups at sites 1-4. Of those I would prefer 1 or 2. I also recommend site 7 and both of the handicap sites (51 and 52.) If you really want a lake view you do have the option to go over to site 35, but it's not the largest site and it's not level around the parking pad. If you are wanting to be on the water, I would try for the fairview campground which is 9 miles away, but is still reserved through the park system. This is an amazing looking place. We will be going back this summer to find more adventures there to share with you.

This campground is in the woods. Sites have electricity and water. Numbers 1-4 also have sewer. Our nearest biffy had 4 unisex lockable rooms with a toilet, sink, and shower. They didn't appear dilapidated to me.
Our Verizon service was dicey with 1, sometimes 2 bars. The park has free wifi but we were told the signal varies in strength. Ours was weak and very slow, requiring as much as 2 minutes to load a web site.
The campground is elevated and separated from the lake by woods. Most sites cannot see the lake. Parking pads are very short. Our Class B barely fit. They are wide, however; a neighbor managed to cram a large trailer into one on a diagonal. I don't know where he parked his truck.
The park has a Jack Nicklaus designed golf course called Bear Trace. It has 5 sets of tee that pretty well accommodate different skill levels. The greens are very tricky.

Very quiet except for the occasional bass boat on the lake. Level gravel sites. Excellent free Wi-fi, perhaps because the antenna is situated directly between Sites #64 and 65. Only 3 channels of over-the-air tv, but the cell service was better than others had previously reported. Saw the cleaning crew a few times, but never saw the camp host. We definitely plan to go back.

We arrived after dark and tried to find a spot that was not taken and big enough for a 30’ trailer. After 3 passes we opted for slot 12 since it didn’t have a visitor pass on the post. No way to check in or find available slots day of or after hours. 12 was booked the following night so I went to front desk next morning. They told me 12 was booked and gave me a few open slots to pick from. Turns out no one ever showed up in slot 12 over 3 nights. It was ok other than moving in the cold rain to another slot. Sites are close to level but short because this is an older 1978 park. Facilities look new and very clean. Sites are spacious and park trails are good. We just stayed 3 nights to get away and visit Jack Daniel’s and George Dickel which are within driving distance. Would definitely stay again.

This park is somewhat older and worn, but still comfortable for a state park. The campground is shady and very cramped. The sites are short and the campground road is very narrow. During back-in and departure, you will most likely block the road. I parked my 23' travel trailer and then had to park the tow vehicle sideways. Even then, I was right at the edge of the road, so I put up some orange cones to warn people.
The campground is pretty hilly- the sites on the inside of the loop are relatively flat, but those on the outside of the loop (Where I stayed, site #40) drop off dramatically.
If you enjoy biking, I rode most of the paved paths. Out and back, it's probably about 12 miles. The paths are asphalt, with a few bumps and crumbling sides but not bad.
I looked in the showers and they seemed OK, but I did not use them. I didn't see any sites with sewer hookup, the campground has a dump station across from the campground entrance.
