“Camping / RV in Sanderson, FL”

The elevation is 130 ft. The campground, stretching along the settled north shore of Ocean Pond, offers campers three different styles of camping, each in a different environment. To the right of the campground's entrance is an open area dotted with Spanish Moss-draped towering Longleaf pine and a few Live oaks. Each site in the loop has an electric and water hookup and view of Ocean Pond. Some of the sites are on the water and campers can moor their boats at their site. The grass understory is manicured giving this area a near RV resort feel. To the left of the entrance are the other two environments. At the far end of the interior road is a loop in a dense forest with sites tucked in among an assortment of native trees, including Longleaf pine. Vines such as wild grape provide excellent privacy. The dirt interior road as well as the irregular shaped parking aprons, enhance the primitive feel of these campsites. The only tent pads in the campground are in this "primitive" environment. Between the two loops, campsites with only water hookups stretch along Ocean Pond's shoreline. These sites are spacious with groomed grass understory and native vegetation providing good privacy between sites. The towering Longleaf pine provide good shade. Additional features of this campground are a basketball half-court, coin operated washing machine and driers, bird watching opportunities (particularly for Snow egrets and herons), lantern poles and excellent cell phone reception. Possible day trips from the campground are Big Gum Swamp Wilderness; the Olustee Depot museum; Olustee Beach; historic Lake City, and a must for Civil War buffs; and the Olustee Battlefield Historic State Park. The Battle of Olustee was the only major Civil War battle in Florida and once a year, in February, the battle is reenacted. In the Fall there is a smaller gathering called the Civil War Expo. See www.Battle of Olustee.org for details and exact dates. This is bear country, practise safe food storage techniques. It is also alligator country; practice caution around water especially with small dogs.

Great little campground with friendly Staff. Camping sites offered do not include sewer but they have dumpsites. Power is offered at some sites and others are full dispersed.

Great NF Campground... Very quite and serene. Price was with NP pass for 50 amp and water site. We were apprehensive about FCFS but was no issue. Seems that there are 3 or 4 departures each day. if you arrive early, you should have no problem.

Very nice NF campground. Reasonably clean and well maintained. Did not visit the restrooms. Very nice hosts.

Unfortunately, the CG isn't built for much over 40'. I'd go so far as to cap it at 38'. Most sites aren't deep enough, and the loop roads are rather narrow, thus limiting maneuvering space for backing.

Site #9 is the exception, as it's on a turn, and is almost a straight shot to back into. Still, at 43', our real wheels were at the end of the pad, and garage door in the brush.

Also, beware your GPS. It'll send you down a dead end dirt road with no turn around.

What happened to Ocean Pond. Everything is run down and broken the road towards the primitive campground is full of big holes. Lots of campsites closed and broken faucets grass has not mowed the beach area is terrible it is a mess in here. And the national force raise the price on the camping fees. Where is all of our money going ? Ranger said there is no money to work with and everything subcontract it out and nobody wants to work.

In December of 2022, we stayed two weeks. Our stay in 2021 was very nice, so we decided to come again. As of now, it is still first come-first serve and fortunately we were once again able to get a site in the water/electric loop. There is also a water only as well as a primitive loop. There are water sites although they could be more wet if there has been much rain. The park is quiet with very roomy sites. Again this year, we had the same great hosts Don and Shirley. The sunsets are amazing!

Lake City is about a half hour drive and meets any shopping need. We toured the near by civil war site, Olustee Battle Field. There are sections of the Florida Trail from the park. Although there is not a designated bike trail or wide shoulders, the traffic is light enough to allow enjoyable biking.

While the bathrooms and separate shower areas are very clean, the showers are not acceptable. Last year, the showers were all working and hot. This year, one shower area within the water only loop is closed because the shower doors were removed and the replacement doors are yet to be attached. The old doors are just heaved on the ground. The fixtures in the three working showers in the electric loop are all problematic. The dial on some won’t turn far enough into the warm zone, another is backwards and you need to know the trick to generate hot water.
The more tired looking feel of the campground is a total reflection on the national park service and not daily routine maintenance.

Sites are FCFS, we arrived on a Tuesday in mid February and found a spot in the w/e loop. The w/e loop is to the right, water only to the left, continue to the left to primitive/tent camping. If you can't back up (we are class a with dolly/towed), if you go to the water only section, you will need to disconnect and back up to turn around. The loop through primitive isn't built for large, long vehicles. We managed to get a pond access site after our first night. Other folks had their boats at their sites. Easy dump on the way out. I'm sure we will be back.

First come first Serve at all spots. When you come in from the drive, water and electric hook ups to the right loop. Water only to the left. Then all the way back to the end is the left loop that is primitive but has community water spigots evert 5 sites or so. There are 2 shower houses that are very well taken care of and clean. Hosts do a great job here taking care of the place. Spent 14 days. About 15 miles into Lake city that has everything you need. Great cell service with Verizon and Tmobile.

We paid $6 per night with our National Park Service senior pass for a dry camping spot, and there are two other loops with water only and full hookups for a little more. All are first come, first served, so we’d recommend arriving early to grab a level spot. The ones right on the lake looked very soggy the morning after a rain but further inland was fine.
Hot showers, laundry and beautiful sunsets can’t be beat!
We use a TMobile WiFi hotspot for internet and had no issues there.
We were sorry to leave!

This is used a lot by locals and is very hard to get into as they seem to hold sites for each other. Nice rest rooms and showers keep clean by volunteers, however management doesn't keep up on maintence - things broke 3 years ago are still broke. Rate is senior pass rate.

We stayed here at the end of November the weather was beautiful and the amenities Were great. The park is divided into three sections. There are about 12 sites that are electric and water hook up. These were $12 using the senior pass. These were located on ocean pond and were nicely spaced so it felt like plenty of privacy. To the left there were water hook up only sites. Again these were nicely spaced and plenty of solar opportunities. If you continue up the driveway there were primitive sites set among gorgeous Palms. Very shaded area so solar opportunities would be difficult. The primitive area is not really designed for larger rigs Other than the first couple of sites. The campground has beautiful hot showers and a very efficient laundry with just one washer and dryer. These are payable with a credit card which we found very helpful. Overall this was a wonderful campground for the price. Five star rating
