“located in a stand of ponderosa pines”
Kehl Springs Camp is located in a stand of ponderosa pines right at the brink of one of Arizona's most awesome geologic features, the Mogollon Rim. Just a short distance from these shady campsites the rim brings the Colorado Plateau to an endwith a precipitous drop-off that plunges two thousand feet from forested highland to Sonoran desert. From this high perspective you can enjoy spectacular views of Four Peaks, the Sierra Anchas, and the Mazatzals. At night, the lights of Payson wink up from 2,000 feet down and 15 miles away. Other recreation activities to enjoy nearby include hiking, mountain biking, fishing and boating. The General Crook Historic Trail and the Rim Country Scenic Drive pass right by the campground.

Confirmed by 1 users | Last reported on June 08, 2023I don’t do campgrounds. But I did drive by this one and through it. Looks quite nice, nine sites, heavily treed, the grassy meadow right next to it. It is right beside the gravel road which people do flyby on, so there will probably be some dust.
It's free from 'between late September 27th, 2020, and May 6th, 2021'. Not sure if that's every year or what, but that's what the current posted sign says.
It has a bathroom, fire pits, picnic tables. Easy access with any rig. I don’t recall any pull through sites. But it’s a loop campground. Pretty setting.
Zero cell service. And I mean zero. No booster will help with no signal at all.

Coming from 87, the West of 300, this is your first chance at a camping spot. It is a few miles from the Mogollon Rim, so no views. The campground is a loop type with at least one pull-through (#5) site. It is among tall trees in a valley, so no wind and zero cell signal. Nothing. The host was super super friendly and the bathroom &sites were immaculate. I have never seen sites that clean and raked!!! Yet, no sun to charge your batteries through solar panels. And there were a few folks running generators. Not my thing
