This park is operated by the county and is next to the fairgrounds in the town of John Day, OR. There are 25 FHU level sites with picnic tables, fire rings and shade trees. The sites are paved and the rest of the area is gravel. The free WiFi worked really well and was fast. Only PBS OTA TV reception. The is also locations for dry camping for $15. There is a walking path next to the park along the John Day River. Reasonable and well situated to visit the area.

We are here on July 7, 2019. Park is "adequate" for a stop over. Nothing really bad. Nothing really special.
The only reason I felt I had to post was to prevent others from ending up on a dead end street, with no turn-around, with a 35 foot 5th wheel attached.

It was very quiet and convenient to town. Sites are long and level, wifi good but slow in the evening when everyone is trying to stream, cell service was good. I think the bathrooms are closed due C-19 but we had full hookups so didn’t need it. Most sites are well shaded with large trees. Path along the river is only a few hundred yards but a walk to town is good for exercise. Folks are super friendly and helpful in these parts. Reservations can be made by phone.
We were going to stay at Clyde Holliday which was beautiful but we were attacked by hundreds of mosquitos as soon as we got out of the truck so we high-tailed it out of there and headed for the county fairgrounds as our backup plan.
A good value but not a destination spot.

First time staying in this fairground RV camp in John Day and we really liked the place. Big back in and pull through spaces and easy to get to. Get out and walk or ride your bike to the big park and fishing pond nearby. If you have time drive up to the airport for some spectacular views of the area. We will be back.

A little tricky to get reserved, paid, etc as they have an outmoded system, but it all worked out. The park is mostly dirt and trees but abuts a big grassy field where the dog could romp. Didn't use showers/restrooms. No table or other amenities as I recall. Decent WIFI, surprisingly. Can't recall Verizon coverage. It was very quiet and just what we needed.

Unexpectedly nice. Shady area and super quiet. We made reservations online but had to pay when we arrived. Not a problem for us though. The only hiccup was not having a bathroom code but the host was pleasant enough and available to get it from.
The restroom was clean. Did not use the shower. Definitely will stay here again.

We regret we had only one night to stay here, on our way home from the coast. The pre-reserved site was waiting for us, with our name already posted. We pulled in and didn't have to unhook our vehicle. It's next to the fairgrounds with the John Day River running next to it. There is a shaded trail running beside the river toward the edge of town, and we enjoyed walking that several times. This was on a Thursday in late August, and there were several sites not taken. On a weekend I suspect it would be full. The trees shading the park were most welcome in the heat, and we could run our AC when needed. The location was very quiet. We hope to return to John Day, perhaps in the spring when the wildflowers are in bloom, and spend more time in the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument.

Easy in and out spot to stop for the night. Able to tide our bikes into town for dinner.
