Date of Stay: September 2014

Previously a Texas State Park, Kerrville was created in 1935 and transferred to the city of Kerrville in 2004. As a former state park, it has some pretty nice facilities. Of course I neglected to take pictures of any of them. Sigh. Not sure why that happened.

There are several camping loops on both the hillside and riverside. The park is actually split by a major road, with the main section on the non-river side (called the hillside) of said road. There are sites on the river side, but I am gonna venture a guess that they are the more popular ones.

Access to the hillside section is via a gate with keypad. Just punch in the code you are given at check-in (done on the river side) and you are magically granted access.

Most sites have full hookups and most sites are pull through with excellent spacing. The campground does show its age, but not in an offensive way.

We stayed in Deer Field Loop on the hillside, which offers 30 amp service and full hookups. 50 amp service is available in Sycamore Circle on the river side.

Offering great access to Kerrville, this is definitely the place to stay if you need to be in the area.

23 bucks for electric and water only. Super cool lay out that allows for privacy. Great hiking / biking trails. Nice people. Some road noise though you are far from the highway. The place where we checked in was actually across the road from our assigned spot (there are sites on both sides of the road). Just be sure to check your map or ask for more directions than we did.

We enjoyed our overnight stay in this former state park, wishing we he'd had more time to explore it. For our in-and-out purposes, it was very easy to get into our pull-through site, fill up our water and get some good rest for the night. We stayed in January and were just about the only people there. The office staff were very accommodating and easy to work with when I had to change my reservation.

One word of warning: if you're staying on Pecan Loop, longer rigs and those that make particularly wide turns (read: fifth wheels) need to be careful when rounding the back end of the loop. Our Class A made it around, but our 36-ft 5th wheel wouldn't have.

This is the perfect stop if you're headed west from Austin or San Antonio. The town of Fredrickburg was amazingly cool. It's a german based town with lots of great food, and drinking in the streets.

The shopping was great. Kerrville itself was also a nice little town. All of the necessities are in Kerrville. The park itself was beautiful with excellent hiking trails. There are 2 distinct camping loops. I was in the river side in the 50 amp full hookups. The other side is more private and larger.

There's a company out of Bandera, TX who will deliver propane to the RV here. Mission Gas...call them if you need propane filled.

The only negative thing I can say about this place is the noise from the highway was really bad. I'm not overly picky about campsites being dead quiet. This was the worst I have stayed in.

Site accessibility (Excellent roads, easy to park) - 4
Campground location (30 min drive to Fredricksburg, 5 min to Kerrville) - 4
Nearby amenities (Everything you could need was within a few miles) - 5
Site Privacy (The river side was pretty wide open. The other loop was more private) - 3
Campground amenities (No laundry. Dumpsters were easily accessible. The bathrooms were clean) - 3
Dog friendly (Great hiking trails. Accessible directly from the campsites) - 5
Activities (Hiking, shopping/dining) - 4
Cost ($28/night for 50amp full hookups) - 5
Staff friendliness (nice staff who left you alone) - 4
Connectivity (Good voice signal w/out a booster for both ATT and Verizon. Verizon internet was sluggish and in and out. Maybe the towers were having issues but I struggled to keep an even connection during the day. Streaming at night was fine though. OTA was limited to only a couple of crappy channels) - 2
Total rating = 3.9

We stayed in site 113 at the deer field loop, which is as the name implies, a more wooded campground across the street from the check-in office. There are sites where the office is located that's closer to the river, but I can't speak to how those sites were.

It wasn't a problem staying in the wooded sites across the street. We were able to simply pull out our bikes and cycle across the street then down to the river for some relaxing stand up paddle boarding. Saw little turtles, ducks and small fish. Nice to see families enjoying the river, picnicking, canoeing, etc.

Later when back at our campsite, we saw deer in the wooded area behind our camper and enjoyed bird watching. It was very peaceful and pleasant. Water, electric and sewer with level sites and clean bathrooms. Enjoyed it!

We popped into Kerrville to get out of the Verizon black hole (i.e. no service) we had been finding in much of west Texas. Let me start by saying Verizon worked great here, both on our cell phone and our jetpack.

If you want to stay here over a weekend in April, make reservations. We had to leave on Friday because there was no availability. Oops.

We were in the half near the river. The road noise was at time annoying, but not horrible. We took a nice walk along the river.

There are limited sites for big rigs (another reason to make reservations). Our site was an asphalt pull-through. Power was good. The picnic table with shelter was appreciated. Others have commented on the rest. OTA television was limited to the ION network and not much else.

This was a good stop for us to stock up and catch up on on-line work. We would stay again if in Kerrville.

This campground has 3 loops, our site was in "Deer Field Loop" which is across highway 173, the main entrance of park, and the other two loops are on the side of the Guadalupe River. The loop we were located is the most secluded part of the park, lots of birds, and deer. The sites are very leveled, compacted black asphalt with full hook ups. Our site was a pull through site in a half a moon shape, we had a picnic table, and a fire ring. Our chairs faced the wildernesses, we could hear a faint traffic noise, but nothing bad. No Wi-Fi in the park, and very low, almost non-existent digital TV. We were able to use the satellite dish even with all the trees around us. The park is filled with oak trees, and Spanish moss. Some hiking trails in the park, and the Guadalupe River bike trail. Restaurants and stores near by, and Interstate 10 few miles away. The campground has nice bathhouse, and the laundry is at the rear of the bathhouse.

When we got to the park, the bigger section was closed for a bow hunt so we stayed in the Pecan Loop which wasn't our favorite. The amount of traffic noise was too much and the rain had left the area a little too wet. The next day they opened up the Deer Field loop and after we took a tour of the area, we decided to move and stay longer through Christmas. We stayed at site 20 with a 24 foot pull behind trailer. We were there with only a few other campers. Most of the campers choose the sites across from us for more privacy toward the woods, however we had a great site with a path to the bathrooms and liked looking out across the fields to see all the deer. My kids explored in the woods and found a huge set of Axis deer antlers. We hiked all the trails, explored the town of Kerrville (Louis Hayes park on the water is amazing) and ate takeout at Mary's Tacos quite a bit. This park is so perfectly situated and feels quite removed! My only complaints are the washer/dryer that sits outside and functions at less than normal. The dryer cycle takes 2-3 cycles to dry your clothes. The bathrooms are adequate...shower stalls have curtains and no changing room that isn't private. It worked for us as no one was there but if it was busy it might be a little harder to be discreet. We love this town, this park and all it had to offer. We would definitely come again!

This was our second time to stay here. Our first visit we stayed in the Deerfield Loop which is across the highway from the park HQ (the Hillside). The site was aptly named as deer wandered through the campground each morning and evening. Most of the sites were pull throughs with full hookups. There are a couple of washers and dryers by the bath house, though they are located outside which was kind of odd. However, it was nice to have them available.

Our latest stay was on the river side in the Pecan Loop. While this was a nice site, it was too close to the highway and had a lot of noise. In addition, our particular site had the sewer and water located very far apart. I had to use an extension on my sewer hose as well as one for my 30A power. Other sites were better in this regard.

On the Hillside there are some nice hiking trails. My only complaint is they are poorly marked so it was not always clear exactly which trail we were on. The trails are easily accessible with only a few places on the trails that presented any kind of challenge - mostly due to rocks. We encountered a couple of families with small children, so it appears to be family friendly.

We have already scheduled another stay here on our way back from West Texas. This is quickly becoming one of my go-to stopover sites.

We stayed here for three weeks in February 2018. This park is great! The park is divided by Bandera Hwy., because we read the east side of the park gets more road noise we chose a full hookup site in the Deerfield Loop area of the park. They sure named this loop correctly! Every night we were entertained by deer walking through the park. We stayed the first part of our stay in site 111, this was an end site which made it feel much bigger. The second half we stayed in site 120, which while not bad we didn't enjoy as much. It was also fairly unlevel. The office personnel was very friendly and helpful and they also accept packages if you need anything shipped in. This park offers a variety of outdoor activities including hiking trails, mountain biking and a paved trail along the Guadalupe River that goes into town. They also have a laundry located near the restrooms. The city of Kerrville has all your needs covered, which is why we chose to stay here and get some projects done before heading into Big Bend National Park. When traveling here be aware that the office for check-in is on the east side of Bandera Hwy. If you're in the area check out Enchanted Rock for some great hiking trails, Fredricksburg is a short drive, which is a nice day trip for shopping and touristy type things and there is the small town of Bandera that we drove through to get here, that although we didn't get to visit looked very nice. We had 3 bars of Verizon 4G LTE coverage boosted to 5 bars by our cell booster. We enjoyed our stay here and if we are in this area again we wouldn't hesitate to re-visit.
