I booked this campground to see a family friend. It was based on location, but it turned out to be fantastic. I loved my site! I had a path down to the shore of the lake. It was sandy and quite nice. The park is quiet, I had some cell reception, and I had a nice surrounding of trees at my site. I actually slept the night through with my bedroom window opened. I had no idea I left it open till morning. That's quiet it was. I explored the park on foot and realized the trails are concrete and fairly wide. Great for biking, rollerblading or for people who use wheelchairs or motorized scooters. The restrooms were clean, as well as the park.

The park visitors increase on Friday through Sunday.
Monday through Thursday the park is very peaceful and quiet.

There is camping for different styles of camping.
The lake is huge as can easily been seen on Google Maps.
The park has concrete paths for bicycles or walking.
The park has a designated swimming area with a sandy beach.
The park has a special camping area for horse with stalls and a large workout pen.
The park has horse trails.
The park has a kid pond.
The park has a lot of deer and other animals.
The park has several children playgrounds.
The restrooms and showers were very clean.
The office personnel were very helpful including helping pick a good campsite.

If you are going to stay in many Texas State Parks, get a yearly pass for $70. The pass pays for itself in only 10 days.

What a great place to camp. You are first greeted by the park service personnel who were all professional and very friendly. Check in was quick and orderly. We were able to select a spot by seeing pictures on their computer. We had a choice between wooded spots or a more open lake edge spot. We chose spot 139 right on the lake. It is a beautiful spot.
Spot 139 was not shaded at all, but the view was amazing. Water and electric worked fine.
The campground was peaceful and quiet. Although they were full it felt very secluded.
We used the kayaks that are free to first come first serve. Equipment was nice and well maintained.
There is a general store near this location. The Dam Store has all the little essentials that may have been forgotten and a great restaurant. I’d recommend the Dam Burger! It was great.
The trails were nicely maintained and we were able to see tons of wildlife.
We can’t wait to return to this campground.

It’s been a wonderful experience. Nice quiet place. Lots of wildlife and some of the best Bass fishing in the state of Texas.
The Rangers are very nice and helpful.

The lost pines in this park really amplify the beauty to a DFW native. It's a bizarre convergence of the Pineywoods, Plains, and Prairie regions and you can encounter each on a single trail.

While convenient to grocery stores and a few small towns, don't consider it a home base for repeat activities south of 380.

Verizon LTE showed 2 bars but had great data speeds and clear audio.

My travel trailer sits low and I had issues finding a spot near the water where I could get level from front-to-back. Trailers with average clearance shouldn't have difficulty but those with an Airstream or anything lower may be prepared to swap spots.

If coming from the East, avoid the county roads unless you want to jar your rig; stick to 380 or 82 for your East/West travel to 377. I had some scary experiences on the roads east of Pilot Point. Roads on the West side of 377 aren't bad.

We stayed in the Quail Run loop of the Isle du Bois unit of Ray Roberts State Park. It is immaculate and has wonderful amenities. A few sites have lakefront or lake views, but most sites are set back from teh lake a little bit. Most sites are nestled in the trees and have plenty of bushes to screen you from your neighbors. The parking pads are asphalt with a gravel tent/table area. The layout is unique to each site. Some are a flat area beside the parking pad while others are on a slope and the table/tent area is on a level above the parking pad with steps built in for access. Most are back-in sites but a few are pull-through. The back-in sites seem to be more private. Utilities are on a nicely designed concrete island and appropriately placed.

There are many amenities in the park that make it a wonderful place to spend a week. There are playgrounds, a beach, miles of paved trails, plus an equestrian area.

The only caution I would offer is that there is no potable fresh water at the dump station, If you need to leave with a full fresh water tank, fill up before leaving your campsite.

The multiuse trails here are very good. We stayed at the equestrian area and there aren't any hookups here. Tent sites are back in the trees behind the parking space. They are generally well spaced and there is a restroom/shower facility and several water sources.

The park is very well maintained and the lake/swimming beach are very nice.

Lovely park, great bathrooms/showers with hot water, great sunsets over the water. Lovely campsites. Cell phone service was extremely slow (less than .5mbp) across all three of the major providers we have (ATT, Tmobile, VZW). Might be better NOT on a weekend when the park is so full.

We enjoyed the park trails and park in general. Firewood available at automated firewood machine near the dump station. Water/electric but no sewer at our site.

The campground is nice and well maintained and sites are fairly well spaced with lots of grass, trees and open areas. The park staff were very friendly and helpful. We were in site 78 for 5 days. Only a few of the sites in the Deer Ridge campground loop looked level, fortunately ours was one of them, but we saw one 5th wheel with the wheels on one side off of the ground by several inches and one Class A whose front wheels were 8-10 inches off the ground. AT&T coverage was fairly good here, generally between 1-3 Bars of LTE service, with speeds up to 4.5 MB/s. There is no WiFi, cable or sewer hookup and the dump station can get a little busy around checkout time. Restrooms and showers were clean and the shower was nice and hot.

If you don’t already have one, you do have to purchase a Texas State Parks Pass for $70, which did add considerably to the cost of our stay.

There are quite a few trails in the area.
