Confirmed by 16 users | Last reported on March 31, 2024An entire section of the campground (K Section) has been closed for approximately 6 years for "renovations". The employees live full-time in all the good sites. Half of the campsites in the other sections are closed because of the park's faulty electrical system. If you manage to find a site with working power then you're bombarded with the smell of raw sewage constantly coming from the park's sewer system. Not to mention all the weeds growing everywhere and the trash blowing around.

Section K (“Gold”) reopened in January 2024 after a complete renovation. Section K is quite nice with 20/30/50 amp outlets, water and sewer at each of the 123 sites. Most of the sites are spacious and are fairly level.
The other sections (A, B, C, M, N, and Q are in need of renovation, and I heard that the campground will be renovating section N later this year.

Absolutely love this tt, tons of upgrades in section k
They are working on bringing the whole park up to date but that takes time. Love the staff and support he activities they do in the different activity centers. Put put golf, swimming pool, spa, pool tables, ping pong tables, pickleball courts, basketball courts and much more. Is the whole park brand new the answer is no but probably one of the best parks I’ve been to in a while!!

We began our attempt at a stay on the top of the hill (that’s where the best cell service is I hear), but left there because practically every available pedestal I checked came back as some form of negative set up. The ones that didn’t were in full sun. Finally located one in the shade and after leveling and beginning to finish the set up, I discover that the hose bib is leaking significantly and California is dealing with a drought. Can’t let it go. Contact the office and they immediately sent someone to deal with it. Long story short …. we need to move. Maintenance fella takes me on a ride to see other sites (there were several other nicer ones … but lower on the hill with moderate at best cell service). We dropped down a level to a very nice, shaded spot. It so sorry that we did. Cell service wasn’t as good, but I knew coming in that there would be issues.
The bathrooms left a bit to be desired. I can’t say they were dirty, but certainly out dated and in need of some TLC.

We initially planned to stay at Soledad Canyon for two weeks for easy access to the LA area. We only ended up staying 4 nights because we just did not feel totally comfortable there. Cell service was important to us, so we headed up to loop N and managed to find the only open spot with working electric. The electric was spotty though and we had a surge, so we ended up turning it off and just running on our solar. The sites are very unlevel, there’s trash everywhere, and none of the sewers have caps on them so it smells like sewer consistently. The park is working on fixing the place up, so hopefully when it’s all done, it’ll be a lot better experience. We hope to come back in a year or so and check it out again to see the improvements. One thing we noted was how the employees were extremely nice and helpful and we really appreciated that!

It’s just a dusty parking lot, really. The bridge is still out. The bathrooms are ok.
Make sure you check your electric before setting up, many aren’t working and most have signs but not all.
A train goes by multiple times a day. A long freight train comes by at 3am.

I understand some of the negative reviews but overall this place is fine. Not much different that many of the other Thousand Trails campgrounds. Yes, it is a little outdated and in need of some maintenance but it still was a great stop for us. We spent one night here a year ago and were not as happy with the stay as we are this time around. Last time we camped at the upper section and it was crowded with bad cell coverage. We walked through the campground and realized cell coverage was better in the area closer to the main entrance. This time we stayed in the lower section. The campground is huge and you have plenty of sites to pick from. Many are spaced with empty sites in between each camper so you have lots of room. It worked great for our 43' fifth wheel. You have many options for full-hookups, water and electric, 30amp or 50amp, or dry camping only. The full-hookup, 50amp sites were mostly full as they are generally first choice for most people.
I was able to get 30Mbps download with AT&T, 1Mbps upload. T-Mobile was only about 1Mbps but still worked fine for phone calls.
As others mentioned you get a few trains every day with a long one at 3:30am every night. I got used to it and It was not a big deal after a couple days. There are only about 4 or 5 per day so it's not that frequent.

The Good: The staff is great :). Excellent Location
The Bad: About 80% of the sites are under renovation, and appears to be for quite some time. The store is under renovation and, again, appears to be for quite some time. The recreational facilities do not appear to be well maintained.
The DANGEROUS: Several electrical posts have open ground. Be careful not to be the ground or you'll have 110V 30A go through you. - Bad News.
Hope to come back when things are fixed
