Confirmed by 1 users | Last reported on October 04, 2022In June 2018 we happened upon MRFC and fell in love with the serenity of this valley, the sound of the water rushing over the rocks in the Toe River, but mostly the owners and the other campers here. We extended our stay and eventually were asked to be Hosts after the former ones moved on. The location to hiking, WNC weekend festivals, and panoramic views is perfect!
If you need WiFi...MRFC is the place and included in the price!
Here we are again...just returned from our Texas home to stay a second season!

A charming and quiet campground, with a beautiful setting and large level sites. Good WiFi. Conveniently located near Linville Falls and Grandfather Mountain. The staff here is friendly and the facilities are very well kept. MRFC was just what we were looking for this week for a relaxing, fall getaway. A hidden gem we’re glad we found.

We camped at this campground for the first time this past summer and we are in love! It’s a beautiful campground. We enjoyed playing in the river, the game room, playing corn hole and fishing. The staff are are so helpful and make you feel like family. We look forward to many more camping trips here!

We stayed here for a mini break on the way home. Staff is super friendly and so were the other campers. Such a cute campground with nice landscaping, gravel and cement at all the sites and nice inset fire pits. Our site backed up to the river and the kids convinced me to rent tubes ($5). It turned out to be really fun! Facilities were open and looked very clean although we didn’t use them (Covid distancing). The campground loop is far enough from the road that kids could safely bike with minimal supervision. The Wi-Fi was enough for checking email and texting but not enough to consider working there or streaming. This location is also great for hiking and exploring the Blue Ridge Parkway. Loved it, will be back!

This campground is immaculate, organized, clean, beautiful, and the owners understand what campers like. The setting on the North Toe River is amazing and boasts excellent fishing and tubing! This is a laid-back and wonderful experience for those who want to chill. The campground rules are precise and make for a great overall visit for everyone. The bathhouse is clean, very well planned; the same can be said for all the infrastructure and overall environs of the campground. The owners are top notch and this a great campground for families or couples. The WiFi is spotty, but, you’re in the mountains!

The grounds are immaculate, the sites are level gravel with nice little concrete pads. The majority of the sites back up to the river where you can fly fish or gently flow down in tubes (which they have available for rent if you don’t have your own). There’s an adorable pond in the middle of the campground that is also great for fishing.
The bathhouse is clean, the laundry is nice ($4.50/load though), there’s a game room and playground and dog park and corn hole and hammocks and all kinds of cute details throughout the park. The store has ice, firewood, dipping dots, T-shirt’s and more.
But the internet, boy is it frustrating and pretty much made our week at this campground paradise awful. The campground boasts having fiber internet even encouraging people to stream. The problem is it is impossible to stay connected to their network. We would connect get kicked off 2-20 minutes later and then spend 2-20 minutes trying to get it to connect again just to have the cycle repeat all day. When we did manage to actually connect speeds were highly variable- sometimes they were great and other times they were barely functional for even simple tasks. There is zero AT&T signal at the park. Verizon had 2 bars of 4G but even with our booster speeds were not adequate for more than just checking email and even it would connect and disconnect as service went in and out. Originally we thought it was just our spot and maybe other areas of the campground were better- we tried under the pavilion, on some of the benches around the pond and the bathhouse/laundry area- sometimes they were a little better than our spot and other times it made no difference. In order to work we had to leave the campground- we went to the library one day and parked on some overlooks off the blue ridge parkway on other days (one day we even left our Jeep at the campground and took the bus out for the whole day so we could work with our desks).
If you just want to get away and have a great place for kids to play this campground is great. If you need internet to work while you are there, we suggest you look elsewhere.

This is a beautiful campground with plenty of space between sites. We were on the river side and loved hearing the sound of the water. You can trout fish and tube down this River. Our front faced the pond where fishing was a popular pass time. The laundry room was excellent with 4 combo washer and dryer. We relaxed in the pavilion area. There are games, arcade games and playground for the younger ones. We have enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere so much that we have booked a longer stay for next year. We highly recommend Mountain River Family Campground.

We have been staying at Mtn River for about 3 years now and it’s become ‘home away from home’.
You have your choice of river or mountainside sites. We prefer the river sites personally for the views & fishing.
The campground owners are fantastic people who’ve become friends. They live on site and take great pride in the property. The property is always impeccable. They are always working. Such a gorgeous place!! The pond is in the center of the property - yes you can fish (catch & release). Areas setup with hammocks, corn hole, seating, etc. The new playground has been a big hit! Oh, and there’s also a dog park area.
The bathhouses are super clean and have air conditioning. The laundry room is brand new with great units and also A/C.
They incorporated additional activities this year over at the pavilion which our family has loved! Bingo, tie-dye t-shirts, food trucks, live music, and more!
Our grandson loves to join us. Lots of kids and a great area for them to all play.
Tubing the river is always a fun treat! You can bring your own tubes or rent from the campground.
The camp store has expanded and features a mix of items - t-shirts, hats, hoodies, koozies, and more. As well as local jams, rubs, and other treats. They’re in the process of building a new office/camp store so we’re excited to see this complete.
We have a 40’ fifth wheel. No problems every getting in. They accommodate all size rigs. All sites have a concrete pad, fire pit and very nice large picnic table.
Wi-Fi is generally pretty good. We’ve been able to work remote on some of our trips. We even had phone service our last trip (AT&T)!
Lots to do in the area! Hiking, Linville Winery (yum!), Linville Caverns, Grandfather Mtn and so many other great places. The office staff can certainly provide plenty of recommendations, too. There are 2 grocery stores in town about 15min away. There’s also a local dollar store about 5min away.
We cannot say enough good things about MRFC. We’ve met some great campers there who we now call friends. We truly love this place and already have bookings for next year!

One of the cleanest and best manicured campgrounds we have ever stayed in. One thing that stood our to me was that the sites had flower/plant beds and it really added a touch of class and home-away-from-home felling to the sites.
We wanted to escape the summer heat in Raleigh for a few days and this place was the perfect destination.
Even in August we were able to sleep comfortably with the windows open and enjoy the sound of the river on our river-side site. We were able to enjoy the live music they had on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon at the pavilion, right from our site.
The sites were level gravel with a concrete pad/patio, picnic table and fire ring.
We really enjoyed the Linville Winery just a few minutes away, and hiking to some of the waterfalls in the area.
We'll be putting this on our list of favorites for sure.

Pardon me for being forthright but I just had to share my experience with Mountain River Family Campground in Newland, NC. This RV park ISN’T what is marketed on their web site. Nor what was promised when we made the reservation. I personally spoke with the manager when the reservation was made, and inquired about cell coverage and WIFI. I was assured that good cell coverage was available and if necessary their wifi was free and usable. Upon arrival we were put in spot (11). After setting up we noticed there wasn’t any cell coverage at all; we are with Verizon. We tried their wifi and it was totally non existent. I called the office and was informed that sometimes it doesn’t work. Out of desperation I tried Direct TV and that was a bust. The next morning I visited the office and informed them that it was important to be connected to the internet for personal business reasons and that we would be checking out a day early. I was charged for the day we departed at 8:am and asked if we could be given a credit, and for whatever amount they thought was fair. The response was: "understand that camping in a rural area such as ours can provide challenges.” I replied “that wasn’t mentioned when I made the reservation.” This is long winded and I’m sorry, but in case someone else is in this situation, remember “caveat emptor."
