We stayed the last week the campground was open for the season. It was pretty busy up until the last day. Other campers and campground hosts were very nice.

Not all the sites are full hookup, so be careful when choosing sites. One site had the hookups on the wrong side. I would have to say our site was one of the best in the campground. While, we did not have views of the water, the tenting area did over look the lake.

Apparently this was a good year for the wild rice harvest. Most of the harvesters were out in canoes. But there was one commercial operation that was using a very NOISY air boat to harvest with. Fortunately after a couple days it broke down and we were back to the peace and quiet during the day.

The campground is in the Heyburn State Park but is separate in location. Access from Plummer (from Northwest) and from I-90 near Wallace is via winding knuckle biter roads. About an hours drive from Coeur d' Elene and about the same from Wallace.

No WIFI, It took a booster to get an acceptable 4G coverage.

We stayed here in June 2022. Tons of mosquitoes. A bit tough to navigate through the campground. Sign says no vehicles/trailers over 45 ft recommended yet there are some sites that will fit a big rig. The state park site says nothing about size limitations. We have a 27ft Airstream so with TV we are about 50 ft. It was a bit tough to go around the loop and back into our site but we managed. The deal breaker for us is that we like to bike while camping - road or mountain and that is not possible here unless you want a 2 minute ride around the loop. Rte 5 which is the access to the campground is very busy and lots of logging trucks so not good for biking.

The other campground in Heyburn St Park (Hawleys Landing) is much much better - you can bike to the Coeur D’Alene trail or hike on multiple trails.

I would not stay here again.

STAY AWAY!!!

The worst campground in our 16 months of full timing. Mosquitoes are the worst we have seen RVing in all parts of the country. They attack you as soon as you go outside, even with Deep Woods Off. We couldn't keep them out of the rig, they follow you in even if you move quickly. Just swarming everywhere. Makes this place un-inhabitable. Also, they charge you an additional $7 a day for a TOWED vehicle. We've been to 75 campgrounds, no where else do they do this. That's $47/day for a marginal campground and site. Top all that off with no dump station, only a few sites have sewers, even in the "Full hookup" area, half the sewer lines are not working, we had to pull into a vacant site (211) to dump. If all the sites are filled you are out of luck. Sites are close together and the road through the "full hookup" area is tight. Car alarms went off in the middle of the night for 2 of our 4 nights. Camp hosts thought it was a good idea to tell us the rules for 5 minutes while the mosquitoes swarmed around us, I had to cut them off and walk away/

Rt 5 from Plummer is OK, except the last 7 miles to the campground road - it is very twisty with the pavement broken on the right side and many cars and trucks on-coming. Makes for an exciting drive. Rt 5 north through St. Maries is even worse, potholes, traffic, trucks and a road work detour dely for 15 minutes to a terrible dirt road for 12 miles, simply horrific. The road into the campground is very narrow and two way. You have to almost pull in the ditch to let a car pass, if 2 large RVs approach each other better pull in your mirrors.

AT&T cell service was poor, 1-2 bars of 4G, could barely get a text through and calls were dropping.

In summary, if I could give it zero I would. I could not find one positive to highlight. The worst campground we have visited. Overall, our trip through Idaho has been bad, will not return to the state.

Stay away! Wishing I had read the review from last July. Beautiful spot but there are too many mosquitoes to actually be outside and enjoy it. We’ve traveled in our 40’ class A all over the west and southern US. Have never seen this many mosquitoes. We were supposed to be here 3 nights but leaving after 1 night.
Our 40’ class A fits fine. Camp staff really nice.

Booked over night while traveling home so we had nice place to walk the dogs. Mosquitoes are so thick you cannot be outside at all. No amount of bug spray will fix this. Swarmed into the camper if doors are open to enter and exit. Received email water would be off periodically but host said it had been off for weeks and wasn’t expected to be back up for weeks. Dumped appliances at entrance to the park. Overall just a terrible camp. Could not pay me to stay in this dump again. Arrived late and got up at 5 am to leave.
