This campground generally gets very mixed reviews and we arrived with low expectations. It turned out to be a fairly nice, depending on what site you got. The campground is situated on a tiered hill and the sites on the top of the hill (12-25) have excellent views of the lake. Some of the sites on the lower side near the lake (roughly numbers 80-120) also have good views. However, some of the other sites near the back of the park do not have a view of the lake at all. I would recommend staying away from sites 1-8 which have a view of the boat ramp parking lot, and any site in the 50s which have a view of the main road. Like many others in the area, the trees in the campground were attacked by the pine bark beetle and cut down. That means you will not find a single tree in the campground and consequently there is no privacy between sites. Fortunately the stellar view makes up for it. There is not a designated campers beach, but the shore is sandy and the water shallow with easy access. Most of the sites are on the small side and there are only a handful that would fit any RV larger than 35'. The bathrooms do have free showers, but the facilities are older and not very clean. The best thing this campground has going for it is the view of the lake and the easy access for swimming and boating. Without those things I would have rated it much lower. The location is also nice as you are less than 10 miles from the west entrance to the Rocky Mountain National Park.

Absolutely beautiful campsite on a hill in the midst of a valley nearly surrounded by mountains and water. Yes, the trees are gone, but that affords incomparable views throughout the day. Sure, it’s breezy. OK, windy up there. But so is every other hilltop in CO. Water and electric. Excellent Verizon Cell service. Bathrooms are very clean. Did not use showers, tho, because one temp only - cold. Close to cute little town of Grand lake with many amenities including excellent ice cream and a Repertory theater. Several big rigs in various locations throughout the park. No trees = easy maneuvering. Our 35’ fit just fine with our tow vehicle parked just in front. Very level gravel site. Short drive to Rocky Mountain National Park West entrance.

Most sites you can see the lake, we had water & electric, they do have a dump station. Our site was tight parking the truck in front of the trailer NO parking on the grass. There isn't privacy or shade at least where we were at. When we arrived it poured buckets we backed in the site & hoped for it to pass but people couldn't get by we had to unhook in the rain. We ran in the camper & when it let up the most vibrant big double rainbow came out over the lake. So amazing I have never seen one that big.

We were close to the Grand Lake entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park, Grand Lake town, not to far real grocery stores. Kayaking on the lake keep in mind it gets windy. We drove up the road to Willow creek reservoir (no motor boats allowed) what a great place to Kayak or paddle board. Ospreys, white Pelicans & Eagles hang out on this lake. We saw fox & deer here too. There is a campground at Willow Creek res. but it's dry camping.

We saw Moose on this side of RM National Park which was a plus. This side of the park is so green & lush. We hiked Coyote Valley trail, a nice flat trail easy to walk it ends up on a river. There was a mom & baby moose grazing & drink from the river what a great time.

Adams Falls is close that's a nice hike too & you can cool your feet in the river at the end.

The Roadhouse bar & grill had the best Margarita, several places to eat not to far from the campground.

This campsite had the best mountain views! You do need to be on the upper part of this campground to get 360 views. If you're on the north or west side of the campground, you won't get great views. We couldn't help looking out the windows or just sitting on top of our camper to enjoy the vast views of the mountains. The camping pad is a little shorter than other sites. We did not have a problem since our camper is 20' long. We noticed other campers were a bit tight in their site, plus with their tow vehicle. There are restrooms and free showers in walking distance. The showers only stay on for about a minute, so you have to keep pushing the button if you want it to stay on more continuously. There is a boat ramp just on the north side of the campground when you first enter the area. You do need an area permit for this campground and many other recreational areas around the lake. There is usually a working kiosk at the entrance, but when we were there, it was out of service, so we had to go to the nearby Ace Hardware store to purchase it there. It was $10 for a 3 day permit. We definitely plan on coming back!

We came up from Denver a night early because Recreation.gov said all of the campsites were first-come first-serve through June 19. That didn’t seem to be the case - all of the campsites were “reserved” but the campground was about 50% unoccupied. The camp hosts were all confused. They could see on-line that we were correct, claimed the Forest Service “government” were incompetent and proceeded to show us their list of place we could set up. Many of them were the same places that said “first-come first-serve” and when they inspected physically that the spaces were reserved - were also confused! There was no way to reserve a space on-line that was first-come first serve ..... so how could that be? AND as a result wouldn’t let us stay in any of those spaces. Space 100 was fine- close to water and bathrooms - beautiful views - but we couldn’t wait to get out of Stillwater and won’t go again - there are too many more beautiful options. We ended up at Sunset Point - for 4 days - it was awesome!

The mountain and lake views are really great here. Access to the beach and water are great too. SUP is a great way to get around when it is not too windy.

There are a lot of sites really packed together in a relatively small space.

Wind is strong enough every day to wreck a pop up tent (as evidence of the tent skeletons by most dumpsters). Our REI basecamp 6 had 3 of 5 tent poles bent by the strong wind.

The bathrooms are all flush toilets with sinks. The loop C bathroom was poorly maintained by the loop C hosts. The showers are closed for the season due to COVID.

Many sites are also within earshot of the highway, and a considerable amount of road noise should be expected.

The setting is nice and the view was great. Our site was at the beginning of the camp ground and no one paid attention to the 10 MPH speed limit signs. The camp site pads are short and our trailer was very close to the road. With cars speeding by we were constantly worried we would get hit.
The restrooms were dirty and not well maintained.

Mostly level gravel sites. Tiered CG which is good if you are on the upper level. Very open due to all trees being removed( pine beetle). Close to RMNP. Price is discount for pass

I really don’t understand the bad reviews on this place, it’s a gorgeous view and overall a wonderful site. They’ve got full hook ups for 14$ a night, there’s a ramp if you have a boat , we brought our jetskis and the water was such a wonderful experience. Maintenance comes around every morning for bathrooms and to clean up any empty sights and even say hi and give us some good tips about places & things to do nearby. Would definitely come back again!

The campgrounds were clean and we'll maintained. Two biggest drawbacks we're the showers were closed (Covid) and there was a state wide fire restriction. Great walking paths too. Access was a little tight but we managed our 35ft class A and two tow vehicle all one one spot.
