If you want privacy, a nice campground and great views this is it. We were planning on boondocking but when we saw the campsites, plus water and trash for $6/nt. with our America the Beautiful pass it was a no-brainer. Even without the pass it would still be only $12. The campground is remote and on the way in we saw no other cars for an hour or so, but it is easily accessible on all paved road. We were here in early November and the daytime temps were 85, but night time it dropped to 59 but felt colder so definitely bundle up. There are trails immediately nearby from 1 - 10 miles in length and from easy to difficult in skill level. There are some foxtails so it would be best to keep dogs on leashes and it's required anyway. Quiet time is 7 pm - 7 am, no generators allowed during that time. Our only ding is that the site was fairly unlevel, but that was a minor inconvenience. Will definitely be back. Surprisingly we had 4G, 3 bar cell and Mi-fi with Verizon so no problems there.

Had a great time here. Very quiet campground (except for the very nice camp host's generator) with big sites all oriented with perfect views. Sunsets were amazing all around in early Feb. The ring trail hike goes right from the nearby visitor center and is very interesting.

It feels like the middle of nowhere, but the campground is beautiful! There are some nice hikes and we picked up our Jr. Ranger books in the nearby visitor center. We also managed a day trip out o the Teutonia Peak Trail. We enjoyed relaxing so much we never made it over to the Kelso Depot Visitor Center or the dunes, but both are rumored to be lovely!

It's a very large park, and there's no gas anywhere, so fill up before you drive in!

We stayed at this beautiful campground for 21 days. It's in the middle of the Mojave, quiet and doesn't get a lot of traffic. If you are an astronomy buff, this is an excellent campground for nighttime sky viewing.

There are handpumps with potable water throughout the campground, trash bins, a dump station and pit toilets. There are a lot of sites here, and most are wide, level and all have a large campfire ring and table.

There are also several wonderful hikes all within walking distance of the campground. One of our favorites was the Ring Trail.

Nearby attractions include the Kelso Sand Dunes and Lava Tubes and Volcano Cinder Cones.

The campground was mostly empty during our stay, aside from the camp host. And surprisingly, we had excellent LTE signal with our booster and antenna at this location. LTE in the middle of nowhere is always a bonus.

Temperatures in November were pleasant with a few cold snaps and high winds.

Word of caution, the campground is isolated a long way from services. Make sure that you fill up your gas tank before entering the preserve and it would be wise to have a spare gas can. I would also recommend you come prepared with food and supplies for your stay. The nearest grocery store is in Needles which is over an hour and half away.

$12/night for some beautiful desert camping. Includes water and trash within walking distance of every site. Dump station at the end of the loop.

We camped here in late November. The weather was delightful, but we got a storm that rolled through one night and brought some 40mph winds and a dusting of snow. Despite that, the rest of our stay was delightful.

Drive over to the sand dunes, splurge and drive the 90 minutes to Vegas.

The only downside: this place is pretty far from anything else. Bring extra gas and supplies.

We really enjoyed our stay here and I can only echo the other positive reviews here. We arrived on a holiday and Friday (Veteran's day) so it was a little crowded but cleared out nicely on Sunday. Loved the hiking.

This is a beautifully situated campground right in the heart of the Mojave Desert.

We arrived from Death Valley to the north, and took the Cima Road exit 272 from I-15. What isn't immediately obvious is that this route to the campground requires driving on about 6-7 miles of a mostly good dirt roads (part of Cedar Canyon road and the northern part of Black Canyon road). This road that is too narrow for two RVs to pass in spots, and it can degenerate quickly after it rains and it crosses several washes. There are paved routes that ultimately end up coming in from the south (I-40, Essex Road exit 100) which are better for larger rigs.

The closest gas to the campground is in Fenner, CA, but it's also the most expensive (by over a dollar). The next closest gas at the Cima Road exit 272 on I-15 (if you go the dirt road way). There is also gas in Baker and Ludlow, but they are both 70 miles away. My long-winded point I'm trying to make is fill up on gas before you get into the park, because it's a hassle to get it afterward! Also stock up on groceries, because a good grocery store is even further (Las Vegas or Needles, CA).

On to the actual campground itself. There are numerous cacti visible right from the campground, and beautiful buttes with some crazy eroded volcanic rock. The visitor center is a short walk away from the campground down a trail with interpretive signs (when we were there in February the visitor center was only open Friday-Sunday).

The trailhead for the Hole-in-the-Wall Rings Loop trail is accessed from the visitor center. This short trail is a lot of fun, but requires using rings to climb it (I recommend going clockwise from the visitor center so you climb up the rings, near the end of the trail, rather than down them at the beginning). There's also the Barber Loop trail which you can access from the visitor center which takes you through gorgeous cactus gardens. You can also hike to the Mid Hills campground, though it's about 16 miles roundtrip (would be better as a shuttle starting from the Mid Hills campground and walking down to the Hole in the Wall campground).

The best Joshua Tree forests were on Cima Road driving into the park (I have not seen a denser patch of Joshua Trees anywhere else in the Mojave Desert). The Providence Mountains State Recreation Area / Mitchell Caverns is closed due to California state budget cuts, but the road up to the entrance is still open and that area has some of the most lush desert we have seen outside of the Sonoran Desert.

The campground is at 4,400 feet so it can get below freezing in the winter, so if you're coming in January check the forecast first.

When we were there many of the water spigots didn't work, but the one at the dump station and a handful of others in the campground did work (so keep trying if the first one doesn't work).

The Verizon signal is good, but would frequently cut out (usually every few hours), and often required that I restarted my hotspot or phone to reconnect. We also had a booster which helped.

The best way to see this park, as it is huge, would be in a small camper - there are a ton of great dispersed sites throughout the park, but many of them are too small for a trailer.

Due to the remoteness unless you stock up on gas and supplies beforehand doing anything more than 10 days is a bit of a stretch. It is beautiful area though.

This is a national park campground in the Mojave National Preserve. It’s a small campground with no hookups and a dump station. The sites are nicely spaced and level with fire pits and picnic tables. There are clean pit toilets and water faucets scattered throughout the campground. The setting is gorgeous. A dramatic rock formation is the backdrop for the campground, and it’s on a hill with views of the mountains and valleys of the preserve. There are several hiking trails and a visitor center within walking distance of the campground.

This campground is remote. There is no cellular service (at least we didn't have any - others here seemed to have better luck?), and the nearest grocery store is at least 70 miles away. It’s the perfect place to enjoy the peace and sounds of nature in the Mojave Desert while still having access to water and a clean, level campsite.

Note: The fee is $12 per night, but we paid $6 per night with our "America the Beautiful" annual pass.

We really enjoyed our time at the hole in the wall campground. The campground is actually larger than it first looks.

For a quieter site, head towards the back north end of the campground. There are numerous pull through sites and some back-ins.

At our site, we had a pull-through spot that open to vistas of the mountains. Each site has a very nice BBQ grill and picnic table. Bring your own wood and shade. It does get windy so watch those awnings.

There is an onsite dump and fresh water.

The Barber Peek Loop trail hike is awesome. Recommend starting at the north end of the campground. This is a six mile loop but well worth it. Great bonus near the end of the trail.

We had Verizon and ATT service at our site. We were able to surf the web but could NOT make phone calls - very odd.

Easy drive on paved roads into campground which was nicely packed dirt/gravel. Pit toilets were very clean and campsites are spacious. We camped in early March, 2017 and campground was not full.

Very nice hikes from the campground, and long quiet hour (7 PM to 7 AM) meant little noise from generators!

Would definitely come back and explore more of the area. $6 a night (with Sr. Pass) make this an easy choice.

Got some AT&T coverage (1-2 bars) but it went out completely at times.
