Overview Dana Peak Campground is located on a peninsula on the shoreline of Stillhouse Hollow Lake in central Texas. The lake offers a wide variety of recreation opportunities, including water sports, hiking, biking, horseback riding, picnicking, large group pavilions, hunting, fishing and more. The facility is one of only two reservable campgrounds on the lake and often fills up on weekends during summer. Stillhouse Hollow Lake was created by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers with the construction of Stillhouse Hollow Dam in 1968. The 6,430-acre lake is located 16 miles upstream of the confluence of the Lampasas and Leon Rivers, which flow into the Little River. Recreation With 58 miles of shoreline, Stillhouse Hollow Lake is an often uncrowded haven for boaters and fishermen. The campground has a four-lane boat ramp, and visitors who do not have motor boats, canoes or kayaks can rent them nearby. Families can enjoy soaking up the sun, swimming at the beach or exploring the Dana Peak Trails (located just outside the main entrance to the park) by foot, bike or horseback. Birding is a favorite pastime for many visitors with hawks, Great Blue herons, ducks, geese, many species of songbirds, bobwhite quail, Rio Grande turkey and even an occasional bald eagle, yielding year-round opportunities for bird sightings.Facilities The campground has more than 30 campsites, including RV and tent sites with electric hookups and eight primitive tent sites. The park offers restrooms with flush toilets and showers, a swimming beach, several picnic sites and a boat ramp. Primitive campsites include a picnic table and a campfire ring with a grill. A group shelter is available by reservation for up to 80 people at a time.Natural Features Aside from two campgrounds and a nearby day-use park, very little of the lakeshore is developed. The edges consist of rocky beaches and sandy bluffs. Much of the lake area is forested, though the campground is mostly grassy, flat and open with little to no shade. Most campsites are right along the water's edge; others are within a short walk. The lake has noticeably clear and deep water inhabited by largemouth bass, smallmouth bass and channel catfish. A man-made wetland was constructed on the south shore of the lake, providing an additional 10 acres of wildlife habitat in the area. Nearby Attractions Within a short drive, the Village of Salado offers golf, art galleries and shopping, among other pastimes. Chalk Ridge Falls Environmental Learning Center is below the Stillhouse Hollow Lake Dam. The center has about five miles of hiking trails, including a one-mile nature trail along the Lampasas River, a spring-fed creek, a waterfall, bridges and several wildlife viewing points. Stillhouse Hollow Lake is located near the Fort Hood Army Base, which has several points of interest for the military buff.

Dana Peak is a great place where you can camp right on the shore line of the Stillhouse Hollow Lake. It is close to Fort Hood and Killeen TX. There are MTB and hiking trails in the park, although they were pretty busy each day we were there since they are out of the "pay" portion of the park. The campsites do not have sewer but there is a dump station on the way out of the park. The night of our arrival there was a fire in the area that closed down the entrance road. The camp host called us and informed us of this. We were able to shift to the Fort Hood MWR campground for the first night. It got full over the weekend but cleared out during the week days. Just great views with a cooler wind coming off the lake. The normal cost is $24 per night but with the America the Beautiful Access/Golden Age pass it is $12 per night.

We started tent camping here in 2017/2018, and have been coming back with our travel trailer. Great spots on the lake, friendly people, both at check in and other campers. Usually only stay Friday-Sunday, dump station is easy to get into and the showers/bathrooms are always clean and stocked.

This place was fantastic. Water front site. Swimming in crystal clear water (bring goggles, SO MANY FISH), a nice shaded area. The trash was overflowing (which two parties are at fault) but if was the end of their week for pick up as well. If you have a boat it’s even better. This place was the best place by far that we have stayed in TX. Weekends are busy. Book ahead.

Beautiful park! Especially love site 10. Plently of space between each site. Walk down the slope with your noodle or inflatable tube and enjoy the day on the lake. Clear and clean water. Highly recommend.

Of course this is the first cool week since summer so the weather is amazing but this place is really beautiful. Campsites are well kept and well spaced. On the water with relaxing views. Will definitely come again.

This site is a pull thru and when I walk out my front door within 30 feet is the water. The covered picnic table is nice and there aren’t any stickers in the grass, my dogs like that.

Great park, huge spaces, very clean with deer roaming around everywhere. Lake was filled with jumping fish. Caught 3 largemouth bass and several bluegill from shore 30 feet from my front door. Would definitely stay here again

Every site on the water and well spaced out. Typical COE water and electric with the dump on the way out. Enjoyed the 2 nights there, Close to town so you can stock up on your needs.
The town of Saldo was about 20 miles away and is a Top 10 Texas small town to see.
I am giving it a 3 rating because the public facilities were not very clean and we had a power outage for at least 4 hours. If not for the rest rooms this would be a 4.

Stayed in one of the tent sites on the west side of the park just for a quick 2 day 1 night trip. Nice area with a nice lake to swim. We stayed in the end of June, only downside was the heat. Do-able but if you do not have a source of shade it was very hot. Be careful of glass in the area some people did leave broken bottles around. One thing to consider too is as soon as the sun goes down the bugs swarm very quickly. But as long as you know these factors and prepare for them, it was overall a very good time.

We stayed here for 1 night on our way to another destination. It’s a beautiful lake, and the RV sites are near the water. My kids loved searching for shells on the beach. There is a nice loop for kids to ride bikes too. $30 a night for water and electric, and there is a dump station near the entrance of the park. Campground bathrooms and showers as well. Very nice place, would definitely stay here again.
