Peregrine Pines is the military campground for the US Air Force Academy. It's in a nice area with convenient access to the highway and Colorado Springs.

The staff was very helpful and check-in was quick and easy.

The campground itself is in a pine wooded area which provides nice shade but may cause issues for people with satellite TV dishes. The site spacing is decent but the roads are a bit curvey - big rigs will want to take care navigating to their site.

There is a main rail line that traverses just east of the campground. Several trains per day pass through this. Those sensitive to train noise will want to get a site as far west as possible but even then you will still hear it. The trains need to whistle frequently in this area to keep wildlife off the tracks.

This famcamp is the most expensive we've been too, but was still cheaper than other full-hookup options in the area.

WIFI is marginal - the campground simply has a Verizon Jetpack in a lock box at each bathhouse. Bring your own.

We had good service will all four cell carriers.

This is a beautiful and well-maintained campground for, DoD ID card holders only, and you can’t beat the location.

The campground is located just east of Falcon Stadium and is open year around, so I am thinking I will have to come back in October and November to catch some Falcon Football.

The campground is located among some pretty thick Ponderosa Pines which offer plenty of shade and of course a wonderful aroma. The staff is friendly and industrious. Within minutes of a site coming vacant, a staff member is policing the area to make sure it is ready for the next guests.

There are several laundry, shower and toilet facilities throughout the campground. The shower and toilet facilities were spotless and there did not appear to be any charge to use the shower. The laundry will cost you $1.50 per wash and $1.50 per dry cycle. We did not use the laundry, but the machines all appeared modern and functional while the facilities appeared clean.

Each of the laundry shower toilet facilities has a Verizon hotspot making WiFi available in the immediate area around the building. We didn’t bother trying the hotspots because the straight up non-boosted Verizon signal on our phones was phenomenal. Full bars and 33Mbps download speeds. AT&T lagged far behind at 2 bars and 9Mbps.

We stayed here in late June if 2018, in campsite #101 at the far eastern end of the campground. of the campground. As others have said, there are some very active railroad tracks just beyond the east end of the campground, so site 101 is within spitting distance of the tracks. That is a bit of an exaggeration, it is more like a half mile to the tracks, but you definitely know it when a train goes by, and they do go by just about every 5 hours during day and night. After working on/near the flightline for 20-years, the train was not a bother at all.

All RV sites offer full hookups, and there are tent only campsites as well. Sites are gravel and ours was level, but some of the others did not appear level at all. You will want to use a water pressure limiter on the line into your coach. The pressure out of the hookup was more than 80 psi.

During the peak season, reservations are recommended. A place this beautiful attracts a lot of visitors. After October, only the eastern end of the campground is open and all sites are first come first served.

Beyond the FAMCAMP, the US Air Force Academy is simply a beautiful place. There are 5 or 6 stocked lakes to fish in, countless miles of hiking, biking and equestrian trails, along with all of the history, the campus has to offer.

We will definitely stay here again!

This is a well-maintained site on an AF installation, so you would need a DOD ID to stay here. But the sites are clean and extra-large. It is near the train tracks, but not a show-stopper for us. Lots of trails on base if you want to go hiking, and easy access to Colorado Springs. Recommend using the North Gate because it's closer to the famcamp, but both North and South Gates are navigable.

Our trip ran into problems and we had to find a location quickly and the USAF Academy Family Camp saved our butts! we had to relocate from Grand Junction to Colorado Springs during middle of June and the USAFA Staff came through for us in our time of need.

Unfortunately we had to relocate 3 times in 6 days which was inconvenient on us, but at least we got to stay at the same park! Several of the sites were narrow because of the trees and made backing in a challenge! But we overcame and made it work. The facilities like bathrooms, showers, and laundry rooms were superb! They even have propane service on site. The dog parks are open but spacious and our puppies really enjoyed them. The park is very clean. Check in/out was very easy.

Majority of the sites full hook-ups (20/30/50A) with water and sewer, but a few of the older sites only have 20/30A service. Make reservations early and the only issue is that the main office closes daily at 6PM, so you have to be checked in before 6pm.

This campground is DOD ID card holders/disabled (VHIC) veterans only. No visitors currently....
The campsites are $35 for rigs over 27ft/$30 under. Tent sites are $18, but are only open from May 1 to Oct 31.
The place ist nestled between the main road of the Air Force Academy (not much traffic there unless it is on a game day or graduation) and the train tracks. The tracks are located below the campground and the train do whistle coming by. A bit further east is I25 and it is only rarely noticeable. The USAFA air field is south of here, but that is not a major noise pollution. The loudest thing here are the trains, the Falcon's football stadium (during events only) and at 4:45pm the lowering of the flag daily. The campground is literally in a beautiful pine forest. They trim the trees and grate the roads annually (just got done in early April).
The office is open from 9-6 pm/7 days a week during the Peak season. Be advised, that some of the sites are closer together than others. The roads and sites are all gravel/dirt past the office and the rigs will get dusty. The bathroom houses both clean and also have an inexpensive laundry in them. There are lots of dog bag dispensers, but not dog park 🤨. They sell propane at the office.
During the peak season (April1 to October 31) the max stay length is 30 days. In the winter only the 6 month max per calendar year applies. Reservations can be made 90 days out for active duty, 60 days out for retirees and all other dod id card holders plus 30 days out for disabled veterans (VHIC). We use a unlimted hot spot and had no problems streaming TV or using the internet. Satelite might be an issue depending on the site since the sites are all in the forest.
***☃️****☃️***☃️***☃️***☃️***☃️***
The Low season is from Nov 1 until March 31. The office is closed. You can call, leave a message and wait to get called back a day or few days later. The rates are lower $30 per day or $750 per month, if you are staying the full calendar month only (they just raised those to that for the next winter!!!) The water stays on, but only to fill tanks when the temperstures are above freezing (heated hoses do not make any difference) and they check that!!!. Last winter the bathrooms were locked up for the first time. Skirting is not allowed. There are only 60 or so sites open in the winter. The 30 amp area become a rv storage. There is absolutely NO snow removal or sanding. The gravel roads turn into ice for weeks. It is especially back around the dumpsters. This did not change even after a fall while walking the dog with a broken bone that required the military police to come out and a transport by ambulance.

Highly recommend if you’re eligible to come here. Large sites, pine trees provided some shade, facilities very well-kept. The AFA base is huge with all the amenities you’d want. It’s right off interstate 25 and close to shopping and restaurants. The mountains and the trees made for some beautiful scenery on the base. Definitely one of my favorite Fam Camps. There were trains that came by nearby but they didn’t bother us at all.

Peregrine Pines Campground is a beautiful, wooded, rustic campground surrounded by pine trees and dirt roads. Check-in was quick and easy and the staff is very friendly and helpful.

The gravel roads are narrow so just be aware if you have a big rig. There isn’t a place to turn around, but with pull thru spots and roads that loop throughout the campground, it’s easy to get around.

The speed limit is a slow 4.5 mph, but it’s appropriate with the way the campsites are laid out and children playing in the area.

The train tracks are located about 1,000 feet from the edge of the east side of the campground and the train can be easily heard as it passes through. Fortunately the trains were infrequent and didn’t end up disturbing us too much.

Every campsite has full hookups with 50 amp electrical, water, and sewer. One thing to note is to make sure you have a water pressure regulator. When we were checking in, we were told that some people who were not using one, had their hoses explode because of the water pressure being so high!

Propane is available for purchase.

The campsites have picnic tables and charcoal grill stands for outdoor BBQ’s.

The commissary and BX are a few miles up the road if you need groceries or other supplies. They also have a gas station, but no diesel available.

Our site was conveniently located near the laundry facility and bathrooms. A code is needed to access the building which is given at check-in. It’s $1.50 per load to wash and $1.50 to dry. There is a quarter changing machine and soap to purchase next to the machines.

There’s a sand volleyball area, horseshoe pits, tetherball, frisbee golf, playground, and picnic pavilion within the campground area.

Dogs are to be kept on a leash and picked up after. They can’t be left alone outside due to the wildlife in the area and barking must be kept to a minimum.

Would stay here again.

Staff was extremely professional, friendly and helpful. The BX, Commissary and gas station staff were just as great. The grounds are incredible. The only complaint is the restrooms and showers. The staff informed us that the situation was going to be taken care of. Because of the staff and the grounds I'm still giving them 5 stars. Can't blame everyone else for one lazy individual.
