Confirmed by 1 users | Last reported on August 06, 2023This is our first State Park experience and we are now spoiled! As soon as we set up, we both agreed this is one of the best parks ever! So maybe we are cut out for state parks.
What we loved: The site was level and very spacious! We have full hook-up which was a surprise, we didn't expect the sewer. The camp host was great - we thought the sewer needed a special collar, but someone had left theirs and it was stuck. She came right over to help. The greeting upon arriving was great and we learned more than we expected. For example, they normally don't give cavern tours on Mon-Wed. But upon arrival we learned they were giving tours on our arrival day, Monday. Clean and new bath house.
What we didn't like: NOTHING!
Now we don't have wifi or cable, antenna TV works and who needs it all in the forest?

We stayed here the first two nights after purchasing our new (to us) Airstream. We where actually surprised to learn that Florida even had caverns. The sites here back in, and are very private and wide, but not paved. They're sand/dirt. We stayed in late August and the humidity and temperature wasn't to bad. There is a lot of shade here.
If you stay, doing a tour of the caverns is a must. It was the one thing we enjoyed doing. And it's a unique experience to go from hot 89 degree Florida weather, to wishing you had taken a hoodie with you.
Overall we had a pleasant time here. And there are a number of trails and swimming at the park.

This is a beautiful little park with some pretty impressive (for Florida!) caverns. You can tour the caverns certain days of the week, but be sure to arrive early to book your tour or you may not get in as the spots are fairly limited. We enjoyed the bike trails and the bathroom and laundry facilities were clean.

Nice state park with many trails for hiking or biking. Unfortunately the trails are poorly marked but we still enjoyed the hikes. Nice wide back in site, a little sandy but not a problem, pretty level. They were only offering flashlight tours of the caverns so we passed on that. There is geo caching in the park and we did find one which is always fun. No problem with cell coverage. We did not use facilities but seemed to be fine. If we are back in the area we would definitely stay again.

We came here specifically for the caverns. They didn't disappoint and neither did the campground! There was so much to see and do - hiking trails, geocaching, swimming. We would definitely stay again if we were in the area!

We came here specifically to see the caves. Having recently gone to Mammoth Caves my expectations weren't too high however I was pleasantly surprised! While not even close to the size of the Mammoth Cave complex, the caves here still were impressive and had a few features I had not seen before. This being my 4th cave experience. In summary, if you're here, see the caves!
The campground was small but okay. Sites were sandy and if it rains a bunch, muddy. Nice, clean bathrooms with showers and laundry. The swimming hole wasn't opened and I hope it looks more inticing when it is open. It looked like a alligator home when I was there.
The downside: the campground is far away from things you'd want. The visitors center (where the cave tours start) is 2 miles away and firewood, only available at the Ranger Station is 3 miles away. No easy access to either via a trail or shuttle so we walked down the road 2 miles both ways to visit the cave. You can rent canoes which looked like fun if we had stayed longer. Everything was reasonably priced.

We liked this small campground more than expected. Even though it was spring break during our stay and the campground was full of families, our site was on the end of the loop with just enough trees to create a bit of privacy. We enjoyed our generously sized site and were pleasantly surprised to discover the full utility hook-ups. For only $20/night this was quite the deal.
Aside from the campground, there are trails to hike, a river to kayak, a sink hole for swimming, and of course, caverns to tour. We did it all except for swimming (too cold at that time of year).
One thing to note about cell service. If you're like us and work while traveling this is not the most ideal spot. The coverage I reported is without a booster. With a booster we got 1 bar of AT&T 4G and 2 bars of Verizon LTE, but it was very, very slow. I did get a better signal in the open field near the picnic area.

This is a beautiful campground the provides easy access to a wonderful guided tour of the Florida Caverns. if you go during a popular time, it is a good idea to get to the beautiful CCC-built tour office and museum by 8:30, so you can sign up for the first tour at 9 and view the exhibits. Beside the fact that the tours can fill up, there is limited parking for rigs, so arriving early is doubly wise.
This park Is very convenient to the I-10, so if you're passing through north Florida, as we were, it makes for a great thing to do. We got the 50% discount for Florida seniors; the regular rate is still only $20/night for a water and electric site, plus the $6.75 fee for Reserve America.
I only gave four stars for site quality because it was somewhat overgrown and needed mowing. The office was aware, but said the site had been so busy they couldn't mow it. It's a pretty campground.

We LOVED this place. Smaller campground with all types of camping. We have a 24 foot pull behind trailer and it fit great and was nice and private. We stayed in site 24 which backs up to the woods and my kids could explore their little hearts out. It was close to the bathroom without anyone being right in front of you. The bathrooms were great (nicely heated and lots of privacy for showering and changing). The 2 washers and dryers were great to have too. We stayed mid December and there was hardly anyone there. We took a cavern tour and we ended up being the only ones on the tour. Make sure you check when school kids are scheduled because they block out some of the times for that. The cavern tour was amazing for me and my kids. We really learned a lot and it was amazing to see the cavern...it really is something special. We took lots of hikes to the blue pool, behind the caverns (which have more caves), and on their other trails with our dogs. We loved this place. We would definitely go again!
If you want a yummy quick meal nearby, check out The Wharf. They have great seafood options and great food!

Overall our experience and stay here was great. Amanda at the park entrance was extremely friendly as well as the other park rangers we met during our stay here. The park entrance is tight if you have a larger rig and the road into the campground is narrow, especially if you were to meet a larger rig coming the other way but we had no issues. It is a beautiful ride in.
The campground is a loop with a narrow road, but again we had no issues. We both work remotely and had no issues with cell coverage (Verizon) during our stay. With the booster we got 3 bars at times. The campground has 2 washers ($1.50) and 2 dryers ($1.00). During our stay one of the washers was out of order, but it was quickly replaced with a new washer. There are showers. We took a peek at them and they seemed pretty clean. There is also a vending machine by the washers and dryers.
We did the cavern tour which we would definitely recommend if you stay here. It is a ways from the campground (3 miles). If you do the tour in the morning you want to arrive early. It is first come first serve. You are not able to buy your tickets ahead of time. We believe you can if you are doing the night tour. There is a swimming hole in the park close to the campground. We didn't use. We did see someone swimming in it. It just didn't seem that inviting, but it may have been the time of year. We stayed here end of February, beginning of March. The mosquitoes are brutal so bring your bug spray.
This was one of our favorite Florida State Parks we stayed out. We definitely recommend staying here.
