“Everything you could need”

Recent development of Fool Hollow Lake Recreation Area has created a top of the line experience. Campsites are located in several loops that wind amongst ponderosa pine. Many campsites have a view of the 150 acre lake and wildlife islands. The predominant tree species is ponderosa pine with juniper and pinyon pine scattered about. A newly constructed day use area offers five large group picnic ramadas and two playgrounds. Directions: The Fool Hollow Lake Recreation Area is located in east-central Arizona, two miles north of US 60 off Highway 260 in Show Low.

This place is beautiful and quiet. The park is extremely well maintained and the Rangers are very helpful and personable. My visit was in April. The weather is still a little cool and can get below freezing at night. It wasn't real busy but I understand it is completely full in the summer. I was able to work remotely but the service is a little week. If you have a booster you should be good. I would see Osprey and Eagles as well as the resident ducks and geese every day. I would definitely stay here again.

You can swim and fish in the lake, which is awesome. Plus, they've got a really nice convenience store on-site with anything you might need (you know, in case you forgot the marshmallows for the s'mores or whatever). It gets crowded, though!

This is a lovely campground with widely spaced camping spaces and lots of tall ponderosa pines. We were in a bit of a valley and still had good Verizon coverage. Sites and bathrooms were very clean and everything felt very new. Nice walk down to the small lake which is several feet below normal currently. They have several different loops with no hookups at $17 to full hookups for $30. Definitely recommended and will stay again if we are back.

A great little park high up in the Arizona Rim Country, Fool Hollow offers everything from dry camping to full hookups on a fairly small lake/reservoir.

Located in a National Forest, but just outside of Show Low, Fool Hollow is a collaboration between the Forest Service, AZ Game and Fish Department, Arizona State Parks, and the City of Show Low. It is run by the AZ State Parks.

I reserved site 9 in the Mallard loop, which offers full hookups, a view of the lake, and the world’s longest (back-in) driveway for a campsite. There is very good spacing between the sites, so you definitely get your privacy - always a good thing!

The actual lake is setup for fishing. There is a boat ramp in the day use section of the park across the lake, as well as several fishing piers and docks. The lake level was down quite a bit, so the fishing piers were a bit higher than the actual lake.

There is a trail around most of the lake, connecting the day use and campground, as well as all the fishing facilities. This trail is only 1.5 miles long as the lake really isn’t that big, but I managed to cover 5 miles with an out-and-back plus meandering through the day use and campground areas.

Fool Hollow will always hold a special place in our hearts as it was the first place we camped ever as a married couple or in The Gump. Just outside the picturesque town of Show Low, AZ it is the perfect get away from the heat of Arizona.

We stayed for two weeks at the end of December 2015 through early January 2016 and another two weeks from the end of January through the beginning of February 2016. Snow, wind, tall pines, frozen lake, wildlife, and quiet. Each trip we were the only people there other than the occasional overnighter. The rangers at the park are friendly and helpful. They will accept package delivery, if they are in the office they even delivered the package to our campsite of their own volition.

We stayed in the Redhead Loop which is the only loop open in winter. Spots were well maintained, clean, and never lost power. Rangers are good about monitoring trees that need to come down in case the wind is blowing to ensure that trees don't come crashing through rigs in the middle of the night.

The dogs loved playing in the snow and walking along the lake shore. Pickles loved sitting out on the patio talking to the birds and squirrels on the days it was warm enough to let him do so. Leo was incredibly fascinated by all the wildlife passing by the windows, although he wasn't too keen on getting his paws in the snow.

We haven't been back since spring has sprung but this is a state park we will return to without hesitation. Especially since the lake is stocked and the fishing is supposed to be excellent.

Nice and clean. All roads and sites are concrete. We stayed there mid March 2017. High 70s during the day and mid 30s during the night. Our site had water and electric but no sewer. The dump station was closed due to freezing temps but they allowed us to dump at a nearby full hook up site. The lake was a short walk away. At our site there was steep drop offs close by, that you need to watch the kids closely. The sites are really close together on our loop but it didn't feel overcrowded due to the vegetation between sites. On our loop, most sites are double sites. If a stranger would have camped in the spot adjoined to ours, it would have been uncomfortable. We ended up reserving and paying for both spots, 17 and 18. After being there, we noticed the park wasn't full and don't think anybody would have tried to camp in the spot connected to ours. The surrounding area was a lot more wooded than the park itself.

We love Fool Hollow. Clean, well cared for sites with plenty of room between. It’s popular in the summer with the Phoenix crowd. Reservations are recommended.

We stayed for 2 nights with our trailer. I wish we could have stayed longer. The camp spots were large and had full hookups. We were in the Redhead campground. The lake was very pretty and there is a great hiking trail around it with benches. The bathrooms are showers were nice and clean. We loved all of the big pine trees and fresh air.

We loved it here! It is an amazing state park. Lots of areas to walk, immaculate sites, good cell service, close to town. Lots of snow this year so the lake was full.

Other reviewers did a great job in describing the park. The only weird thing was that many of the sites are double sites, like the concrete pads touch each other. So be aware if you are reserving ahead of time. We had no problem getting a site arriving mid week in March without reservations. The sites are assigned as you enter.

These are the best view sites if you can get them: Mallard Loop #9; Red Head #12; Ruddy Duck #3, 6, 7, 8; Cinnamon Teal #19
