Platte River has been open about 2 years. The sites are all gravel, very level. Big plus is the size. They are wide enough that you can park you rig AND your toad or tow vehicle beside the rig.

There are two types of sites. $30 full hookup and $10 boondock sites down by the river.

In season they offer kayak and tube rentals on the river. And of course fishing.

Verizon was 4 bars at 16.33/5.0 mbps down/up without a booster. Park WiFi was usable but only about 1mbps, sometimes a bit less.

Place is clean, restroom immaculate.

Second stay with the team at Platte River. Still a great park.

Check out the two museums in town. The Glenrock Deer Creek museum is just up the street. This small museum has great history about the local area. Glenrock was one of the station stops on the Pony Express during the couple of years that is was in operation.

The other museum is the Glenrock Paleontological Museum. Started by a Sean Smith. They have a wonderful collection of local fossils since Wyoming has a wonderful number of dig sites. Now I'll probably get this wrong but the volunteers, a group of wonderful ladies, call themselves the Bone Biddies. The entire museum is run by these ladies and they are delightful to talk to and very knowledgable about what they are doing. Happy to show you their workshop with all of the work in progress.

The sites are fairly level with full hookups available. It wasn't very busy while we were there and seemed to be primarily long term occupants. The sites were big and had a picnic table. There is a river that flows right behind the campsite, but we didn't go in it since it was flowing pretty quickly. We had cell service and they have wifi, but it was pretty slow so we didn't use it. Pet friendly with a small dog park to let them roam off leash. The town of glenrock is very small, but we had a nice breakfast at the Rock Bottom steakhouse. We recommend it for a stop over since there aren't a lot of sights close by besides Casper which is about 20 minutes away.

We worked the kitchen for the weekend of the solar eclipse and although we were exhausted by the end it was a great experience. Rod and Jean run a great campground, were gracious hosts and helped out wherever and whenever they could. It was BUSY!
The campground was easy to access and seemed to be well layed out. As workers for the event weekend we stayed in the front parking lot area which was fine because we were close to the kitchen but far enough away from the eclipse revelers.
There was a bit of a problem with the WiFi but only because 700+ people were trying to use it. We had a great signal with our Verizon plan.
We will definitely stay again if we are in the area again.

We stayed just a few days before the eclipse. Watching the planning and dedication in preparation for the eclipse was a testament to how well the park is managed.
The sites are gravel/rock and good size for large rigs. There is a dog park plus a large field that leads to the Platte River. While the park location is great, the nearby businesses caused some noise and had a lot of security lights at night. Not ideal for star gazing.

We took the kayak ride down the river, which was a nice trip. The staff was very nice and ready to help if we needed anything.

To be able to take a sleepy river front campground and turn it into a thriving community of 2500 is just down right AMAZING. Jean and Rod did just that for the weekend of the eclipse. We helped out at the registration table and we had so many people stop by to say how well managed the entire event was and that they truly had an awe inspiring weekend.

We chose to get in before the crowds and spent the 1st week exploring the nearby area ... Douglas has some fantastic museums, especially the Pioneer Museum and the WWII POW museum. We also took a private photography tour with Ron Hayes and saw some of the hidden paths through the Black Hills and up on Casper Mountain. So much wildlife!

As for the campground itself, it tended to be a bit dusty, but, hey you are in the high plains! Also, though they have Wifi, most of the time, because there were so many people in the campground, they had to restrict it's usage. They also do not have cable but you can camp right along the Platte River so who needs it! They also have float trips available on the river.

This was the perfect place to view the eclipse and we will definitely be back!

Positives: checkin folks were really nice!

Negatives: you’re basically camping in a mosquito infested (I’m talkin’ 200-300 mosquitoes on your body anywhere outside your rv for more than 3 seconds) industrial park next to a storage facility and a warehouse.

Our neighbors bedroom window was literally less than a foot from ours - we barely had room to put our slide out.

We would have left immediately except we arrived during a tornado warning and had no place we could go

Needless to say, we won’t be back...ever

Excellent spot for vans and small campers. When I pulled in, my heart sank. In the front the class A’s and fifth wheels are packed in on gravel so close together that they can’t even put their sliders out. I’ve been driving too long and needed a place to stay so went inside for more details. Since I am fully self-contained in a 1998 Roadtrek van, she suggested I take one of the tent spots in the back by the river for $15 a night. I am parked about 30 yards from the river and there is nobody around me. The big rigs are crammed in upfront like sardines and I am here with my dog with one of the most beautiful views I’ve had while camping. If you are fully self-contained and don’t need hook ups, I would Suggest taking one of the large tent sites in the back which easily fit a van or a small camper.

With no hook ups, you are still welcome to top off your tanks from any of numerous water stations. They also have showers, Porta potty’s, and an enclosed dog park which Cosmo absolutely loved.

If you are in a class a or a fifth wheel this looks like a horrible place to camp, but if you are self contained in something smaller, you just can’t beat this.

We did not enjoy our stay at this campground. There is a lot of RV storage and what looks like permanent residents. The camper beside us looked like it was from the 1970 and looked more like an old mobile home.
There were spots down the hill, closer to the river in the grass, with I think only water, that would have been more appealing. The owner was very nice, I spoke to him a few times. The price was right for what we needed the space for, just a sleeping spot. If I was going to spend any time at the campground sitting outside, I would not stay here again.

Park sits next to Platte river u can fish, and swim. Area in back that is for tents. Manager was always fixing up the place and keeping the area nice constantly. Very attentive and always there to help. Great place.
