“A landmark for many peoples”
Towering 800 feet above the North Platte River, Scotts Bluff has served as a landmark for peoples from Native Americans to emigrants on the Oregon, California and Mormon Trails to modern travelers. Rich with geological and paleontological history as well as human history, there is much to discover while exploring the 3,000 acres of Scotts Bluff National Monument.

It’s pretty dramatic. You can even drive to the top to see the view. And there’s a hike up thru a cave that looked exciting.
Great stop! We were there for several hours, much longer than anticipated. The little museum has a great video about the area and quite a bit of history. The views from the top of the bluff are incredible (we drove up). The park ranger was very knowledgeable and my kids had a great time doing the junior park ranger program.
Take an hour or more and explore my family had fun. We drove to top and then half of us walked the 1.5 mile down. Don’t forget to walk briefly on the Oregon Trail and see the oxen and stagecoaches. Had a nice place for picnic too
best short stop ever! magnificent views!
I have been to over 280 national parks, battlefields and historical sites and never had such a bad experience as in this park. An ego maniac Ranger was parked in the entrance talking to the ranger in the booth blocking the entrance for several minutes. When I drove around him, he came to my car in the parking lot and told me twice that I need to learn to be patient. When I didn't say "Yes Masser" to him in several minutes, he asked for my license and registration and gave me a park warning ticket. he ran my plates. He was a control freak on a trip. He would not have spoken to a man the way he lectured me for several minutes when he caused the problem because he was too lazy to park his SUV and walk to the booth. If he has mental issues dealing with the public, he shouldn't be a ranger working with the public. I told him a few times that I was sorry and wouldn't do it again (Would never be at that park again). Ruined my day and cost his community money because I didn't spend money on gas, food, and lodging in his town as I had planned. I don't need another Daddy. BE VERY CAREFUL AT this park.
You can drive up to the top and enjoy the view and follow the paved trails. You can also walk/hike up from the visitor sentence. Great view.
a must stop! this place has the most amazing views. Short trails and breathtaking views.
