This lake and recreation area were once known for the 'Folsom Powerhouse' - an electric plant that produced electricity for the town of Sacramento 1885 and 1952. Today, however, visitors can enjoy the 32 long bicycle path that connects the lake to Sacramento. Within the recreation area there are opportunities for hiking, biking, running, camping, picnicking, horseback riding, water-skiing and boating.

Sites are close, but not parking lot close like some places. Enough trees and separation to give decent privacy. Few sites overall means lower noise. Backside of loop (BP60 & BP62) are alongside busy road so some noise through treeline. If you're into mountain biking there are excellent trails leaving directly from RV loop (great flat/paved trails for family, too). Decent swimming for kids in lake. Good easy front-country day hiking (same as aforementioned mountain bike routes).

Beals Point offers two options, electric RV sites or non-electric tents sites. We camped in a non-electric site, which vary from back-in, parallel pull-outs, and shared sites. Our spot was large (could accommodate many vehicles); however, there was the challenge of backing down large hill/dip. Many water spigots and trash/recycle cans throughout campground. Feel immersed in nature with lots of tree coverage, bike/walking/horse trails and nearby lake. We heard lots of road noise, since non-electric sites numbered below 12 are close to a main road.

We pulled in on 4th of July and were able to take our pick of a few tent spots that were open. We got a great one, with plenty of shade and space between our neighbors. The bathrooms and coin showers were in okay condition, but considering the chaos that was happening it really wasn't too bad.
We went over and checked out the RV sites and in my opinion, if you are just looking for something for the night and you can fit, try to get a tent site. They are just far superior.

This is a nice campground not only close to, but in civilization. We camped in site 12 in the tent loop, and there are 3 or 4 spots that could fit a trailer, but not a large one. Site 12 is not reservable - park workers said it is buffer site, but I never did figure out what that means. It is definitely not level, but we did manage to level our trailer front to back with a few blocks. Lots of road noise, so if it was summer, that might be a problem. Lots of hiking, boating and the park is right on the bike path that will take you all over the area. Lots of green grass and trees when we were there, especially with all the rain. The RV area looked more open.

Camping options close to Sacramento are very limited. Beals Point Campground on Folsom Lake has one loop with full hookups designated for RVs only, the remainder of the “tent” sites have no hookups. We waited too long to land a spot with hookups, so made reservations for a week in one of the sites without hook-ups.
Most of the tent sites are well separated with shade and vegetation between sites for privacy. Each has a picnic table and fire pit. Our biggest issue was the low hanging tree limbs both over the campground road and in our site. While there are length restrictions, nowhere does it mention height restrictions! Our 33’ class A certainly isn’t the tallest rig around and we were scraped repeatedly just driving to our site. Once there, we had to do a little judicious pruning of the overhead branches just so we could back in.
Unfortunately, we managed to land in the Sacramento area during a record-breaking heat wave with an average temperature during our stay of 106°! Ugh! We noticed mid-week that there were lots of no-shows, so we checked out the RV loop and found a spot that was vacant until our departure date. We paid the upcharge and were quite happy to return to air-conditioned comfort. The RV loop is nicely laid out, most sites have some shade although there is less privacy between sites.
Folsom Lake is a popular day use area and, given the heat, we were extremely happy to take to the water to cool down. We didn’t fish or kayak, but saw plenty of others doing so. The only other knock on the park is the cost, $33 for no hookups and $58 for hookups. OUCH! There is also a $12 per day fee for extra vehicles or anyone visiting. There are plenty of shopping and dining options very close to the campground and it was about 30 minutes to downtown Sacramento.
We had 3 bars of Verizon 4G unboosted.

Was hoping to dry camp at Peninsular Campground on north side of Folsom Lake (reservoir) but they close October 1! Checked my apps and found Beals is open all year so drove another 40 minutes on small winding roads to south side of Lake and pulled in here for two nights. Chose a spot in the RV hookups sites. $46 with senior discount and $48 normally at this time of year. The dry camping area is only $28 a night but was almost full with no suitable spots for trailers. And that is mid week in early October! However, campground is very clean and amenities include electric, water and sewer! Adjacent coin operated showers and flush toilets if you need them. Close to access for the Lake but also close to highway so road noise in the distance.

Great location if you like to run your generator passed late hours. No one was on B-11 so we ran it late and played our outdoor entertainment system. This spot is near the roadway but you couldn’t hear nothing when inside the RV and traffic was minimal in the morning. Folsom lake was within a walkable distance. There were some low lying branches in the way though.

We stayed here for a couple of nights as a stop-over before visiting Vinnie's Airstream Repair on Monday morning. Opted for a full-hookup site as I was unsure about the non-hookup portions of the campground as some folks had reported low-hanging branches.
Some sites were flooded when we arrived, so we were lucky to get an unflooded site.
In the mornings and evenings, or right after the rain, hundreds of birds came out behind our site to feed - was quite a sight!

This is a state park, you have to pay to be here, the sheriff and rangers patrol regularly so it is a very safe place to park. It is close to Folsom Lake and the dam but you can't see it from the campsites. First come first serve and reservations accepted it fills up fast. Dry camping is $28 and to plug in is $48, pay showers, firewood from the host cost's $10, very clean and safe.

So glad we came here for our first shakedown trip with our new rig. Sites are huge and well separated by trees. We are 25’ but could have easily fit a much larger rig in our site (Site 63). Access to the site was easy.
Staff was very friendly and the campground is very well kept. 3 min walk from our site to Folsom Lake. You are definitely still in civilization, but trees surrounding sites make it feel like you’re removed. Highly recommend!
