Edgar Evins State Park Campground

The road to the campground is steep downhill with some sharp turns. The well-built wooden decks that reach out over the steep banks of the lake were originally built for tents, but have massive pillars holding them up, so there is no doubt they are sturdy. However, when built, there was no consideration for room for backing in. We have a 20 foot trailer, and it took a lot of maneuvering to back in. But our reward was a beautiful lake view, and because I backed in on a little slant, we could watch the sunrise from our front bedroom looking through the side window, which was a nice surprise. Some of the sites require backing in by turning while going downhill. If you have a longer trailer, preview the spots on google satellite before choosing. You will need to unhitch and park your vehicle to the side. But well worth it. Water and electric. Campground host picked my husband up in the golf cart to take him to get ice since it was a steep uphill hike.

The road to get to the campground from Highway 40 is steep and curvy. Do not attempt if squeamish or your brakes are not in very good condition.

The campground is located on the shores of Center Hill Lake (the lake is huge) in the steep, hilly Eastern Highland Rim off of Highway 40 between Nashville & Knoxville, TN.

All campground sites are built of steel supports with very hearty timbers that support a massive amount of weight. We parked our Airstream and large truck, weighing in at 18,500lbs with no worries (not even a creaking sound). The wooden platform-type sites are equipped with a picnic table, grill and fire ring next to the platform sites. (Think "Your own private boardwalk")

They are designed for trailers or motor homes up to 33 feet in length, with a few select sites up to 40 feet in length. These sites can also accommodate small and large tents. Camper tents requiring tent pegs or stakes are asked to use large nails to secure the tents and to remove the nails when breaking camp. Please note: unless you get one of the few large sites, you will have to unhook your trailer and park your tow vehicle on the side.

There are a few really nice trails for hiking - we walked from our campsite down to the marina. During the summer season, there is a full service marina store and restaurant.

There are three bathhouses with hot showers located throughout the campground, they are very nice. A sewage dump station is centrally located in the campground. Approximately 20 sites and one bathhouse are open year-round. Pets are allowed in the campground, we have 3 dogs.

Totally worth the somewhat scary drive into the campground - a truly unique experience!

All sites will accommodate campers up to 30 feet, a few sites go up to 35, and only 4 are sized for 40 feet. Our travel trailer is 28 feet and we fit comfortably in a 35 foot site. Restrooms are a little older but very clean and well maintained. The sites are platforms - tight for big trailers, but worth the views. Some of the smaller sites only have utilities on the left side, so make sure you have extension cords and long hoses. The staff is very friendly. Fly fishing info and supplies at a store at the park entrance. Ask for "Joel." This is a boater's park. Weekends book up, but rangers said it's quiet and easy during the week. Can be busy and noisy on holiday weekends.

We had a great stay @ EESP. We originally booked it because of the elevated decks that serve as camp sites. Every spot on the water had a great view in my opinion. There is a lot of tree coverage to keep you cool in the summer. Lots of things to see and do in and out of the park, IF, you're into fishing, swimming, kayaking etc. Other than that, it's pretty remote. i was disappointed in the cell coverage by Verizon, but that doesn't reflect on the park itself. I do however, wish they could strengthen their wifi signal at the waterfront sites. I know it's camping but i work remotely and need to keep in touch with the outside world when we travel. I do recommend a stay at EESP if you're looking to get back to nature!

If you have kids and want an awesome spot next to the playground spot 46 is it!! If you don’t have kids and want an easy to back into spot 50 is it!! This place is absolutely beautiful and the bath houses are great too!!

This is one of my favorite locations. great spots, bathrooms are clean with HOT showers that were open in February, quiet not a lot of campers.

I had seen this on Campendium when looking for places to stop for a break on our way home. We originally had site 45 but asked to move as it looked too difficult to get into with our long truck and trailer. Many of the sites are either a ramp up or a ramp down to park and the roads slope and are super narrow in places. We switched to 57 on the lake side overlooking the marina. With such a narrow road, it made backing in slightly challenging. Most platforms are 24 x 30. A few longer ones. Do check it out carefully before picking a site if you have a hard time backing or a longer rig. It is unique parking on a wooden platform over a steep hillside. Lots of trees for shade. Plenty of boating access but no beach. WiFi was spotty same with cell phone. Consumer Cellular. We did not use their bathroom as it was a ways from our site. Dump station was fine and easy access on our way out. No good place for lining up except in the road. Luckily no one was there when we went. It is a beautiful spot. Trails need maintenance.

We stayed here for 4 nights in mid-July. Price is an average over our stay. This CG had been on my list for awhile and I was super happy to be able to reserve site 50. It was long enough and flat enough coming in from the road to back in ok. Some of the sites on the roads higher up have steep inclines or declines getting in from the roads. There were a lot of scrape marks on the wood platforms from vehicles backing in or leaving. The sites are all out over the hillsides on wood platforms with massive concrete pilings. The drive into the park / CG is extremely steep as are the roads in the campground. We were a bit concerned driving out with the steep road we had to get up to get to the dump station too - all good though.
The pros: beautiful, cool sites, nice check in (we checked in early), book trade in check in, frog noise at night, pretty lake, fun tower at the vis center to climb. Great exercise walking the dog on the campground roads.
The cons: watch for ticks on the trails. Started one trail and yikes. So kept the dog walking to the campground roads. Which was a con as well - my calves hurt by the end of our stay from going up and down so many hills!

Road from 40 Intestate to the park as indeed curvy but we have not had any issues pulling our 30ft travel trailer. Campsites 1-36 are usually for smaller camper 20-25ft long. Parking along the ridge is limited. The park has campsites that can accommodate longer campers up to 40ft but these are limited. Sites 37-60 are more expensive due to water view. Most can accommodate larger RVs. Be prepared to book ahead on these desirable sites. We usually stay at site 50 or 52. These are longer and wider, easier to maneuver. No pull through sites, only back in. Very clean bathrooms and the staff is super helpful. Power and water hookups, dumping station on site. Beautiful lake nearby for a stunning sunset. Highly recommended. Cellular connection is spotted, campsites up the hill have better coverage. We have Verizon and is a hit and miss. Local campsite internet does no support streaming.
