Sandia Peak Tramway

This was a great start to our day! We went early in the morning and it was not busy, so we got right on. Make sure you take a light jacket, because it is cool at the top of the mountain. The tour guide on the tramway was very sweet, she gave us lots of history and neat facts about the area. My son and I do not like heights very much, and she made sure we were doing OK during the trip. Sorry I cannot remember her name!
No bathrooms at the top of the mountain (port a potty), so make sure that you go before you get on the tram!
Had hot chocolate at the restaurant up top, it was good, but a little expensive for what you get. But, if you go to the restaurant for dinner (? after 4:30), you get a discount on your tram pass (have to make reservations ahead of time to get the discount). Don't forget to put sunscreen on if you burn easily! I think most of us had a small burn from the few hours that we spent there. TOTALLY WORTH THE MONEY!

Talk about a breathtaking experience. After enduring La Luz Trail all the way to the top, I rode the tramway back down. The view is stunning while the trail was strenuous. I parked at the bottom of the tramway taking the connecting trail of Tramway trail to La Luz trail. I went for spring break mid March, the snow and ice made the top 3 miles of the hike VERY dangerous. However, I felt overwhelmingly accomplished when I reached the top. If you plan to attempt the 8 mile La Luz Trail, I recommend leaving early in the morning (no earlier than May) with a good pair of hiking boots, plenty of water & snacks, and cold weather gear just in case. GOOD LUCK! :)

This is a must . If time permits make a reservation and have a sunset dinner on top.

So we actually went to the Sandia Crest Byway (which is in the Cibola National Park, Sandia Park). It was only $3 to park once you drive to the top and very worth it! It beat $20 p/person. The views are just breathtaking and we hiked around. It is right across the Tramway. I highly suggest doing this! Take your jackets because it gets chilly!

Well worth your time and money, we loved this. Especially in the evening, catch the last ride up while it's still light then ride down in the dark and it completely is another feeling!

This was the most amazing thing I've seen in my life. We went to the parking lot at night and just looked out at Albuquerque. It was just spectacular.

A must. We drove up earlier that day and then took the tram that evening and had dinner at the High Finance. The trip down after dark is beautiful. If you drive up there is a small family cafe just about a mile from the turn. They have great burgers.

Worth the money which by the way is $20 per person but they do offer a discount if you make a reservation at one of the restaurants! It is such a beautiful trip up and down. We planned to go up around dusk, then watched the sunset from the top and road a tram down once it was dark and all the city lights where on. It was an incredible view of Albuquerque . Make sure to dress warm! It is chilly at the top even when the sun is out but once it goes down it is freezing! So plan accordingly. Oh and i have sensitive ears so I made sure to take some gum with me and it helped with the pressure. Tour guides are awesome, very friendly, make sure everyone is doing OK, give lots of information and are willing to answer any questions. Oh and gift shop closes at 8 pm so if you are going to be going up to watch the sunset make sure you buy any souvenirs before you take the tram up because they will be closed when you come back down. Make sure to use the bathroom before getting on the tram. Oh and don't forget to check out the ski museum with all the old skis super cool.

The Sandia peak is a must do in Albuquerque! If you are hard core there is an amazing 9 mile hike from the bottom to the top that you can do and ride the tram back down!

The tram itself is a reason to do the peak! It is an amazing view and there is a solid restaurant at the top!

Highly recommend for amazing photos overlooking the city at night!
