Salt Bayou Kampground

Park is in need of some love. Served our need for overnight stop.

Close to town and New Orleans. Sites are fairly level but our site was close to being flooded because waterway was spilling over and this was lowest site. Didn’t have much contact with staff except for flooding worries. WiFi is iffy but workable. Received a dozen or so channels on antenna.

Booked this park on-line, due to location. It is now named 'Salt Bayou Kampground.' Was assigned a site when I booked. Nearly passed it on the highway because the small sign was broken. Office unoccupied, very run-down, dirt road with potholes and dirt parking site, high weeds. Park's overall appearance was neglected and felt deserted. As a solo traveler, I did not feel safe parking there for even one night!

There was no one in the office, however there are 2 phone numbers on the door. I called and Suzanne, the camp host was there to lead me to my site within 5 minutes. There is a swimming pool and a bath house. We stayed a week, never felt unsafe, nice base camp to explore honey island swamp, Bay St Louis Mississippi, and New Orleans. Not fancy, the people are nice and I would definitely stay here again.

We had a pull through for one night and paid in advance so no one to greet you. Bathrooms were not clean and campsite is crowded. No cable or Wi-Fi and absolutely no security. We will not return.
