Somehow we could not find this. We used GPS, and were just trying to do a quick stop on our way through town and ended up on a dead end road, where the GPS said it should have been a little ahead of us. There was a fence up across the road. If we had more time we would have searched around, but instead we took the dead end as a sign to keep moving.
Great Park. Easy to find. there is a campground right there, nice walking trails, a nicely done remake of the homestead. It was a nice walk back in time. There is a visitor center, restrooms, and no fee.
In LOVE with this Inn and the town! We got in later than planned, and the owner was so accommodating an nice. The Inn is beautiful, comfortable, clean, and very reasonably priced. We had a very short stay (arrived at 8 pm and left at 5:30 am) so we did not get to enjoy much time there, but would go back without hesitation.
Also went into town for dinner (maybe two streets down from the Inn) and found a gem of a pizza place that had homemade dough and sauces, and live music by two talented gentleman. It was a great evening.
Stopped on our drive to Maine from TN. It was easy to find, has a large shop, $7-8 entrance fee, restrooms, and is a nice walk. We only went to the bridge, which is amazing to see in person, because it was pouring and they were worried about flooding. Even in the rain it was a beautiful spot. Definitely worth the stop. The area also seemed to have a lot to offer, if we had more time I think there is a lot to do.
The website says this is open until 5 pm, but we drove there and a sign was on the fence that hours are 9 to 3 pm. you can't see anything from the fence, so if you are making the trip I would maybe call first to make sure you can get in
If you happen to be driving through it's an interesting stop, but a little anticlimactic if you were to make a special trip. There are a few educational boards that give information on it. It is right in the middle of town. You can walk to the top and there is a bench there. no fee, no restrooms, and limited info.
We could not find the falls, but ate at the picnic area, and drove the camping road. It is a beautiful spot. We ran out of time to look for the falls, and did not give ourselves enough time. There is no fee to enter the park, & there are restrooms close to the picnic area.
We were caught by surprised at the size of this property and memorial. What a beautiful and respectful way to remember the sacrifices made that day by 40 brave souls. the layout is artistic and intentional and heartbreaking and stunning.
We spent an hour and a half there and felt almost rushed, so give yourself time. Everything is so meaningful and we found ourselves pausing to soak in the moments. The visitor center was not open yet (we were early) so I would imagine that would add some time too. They are also working on the "Tower of Voices" memorial near the entrance, which I would love to come back to see. It will be a wind-chime tower with a chime for each of the 40 passengers.
I cannot say enough about this spot. I think everyone capable of making the visit should.
no fee, restrooms, walking paths, easy to find
Inexpensive and easy to find. nice receptionist. No elevator, which was a pain with the suitcases. Some parts looked very pretty that seemed focused on the larger groups. rooms were okay. half our outlets didn't work, and there was an extension cord running around the edge of the room so the bed lamp worked. Could've been a little cleaner.
Literally a stone gazebo 20 feet from the road. Looks out over a small town. Maybe used to be a good view
