Time your visit around low tide, plus or minus 2 hours (check the tables in advance!)
We found the 1-hour tour with a knowledgeable guide worthwhile. It started just after low tide.
We brought our own picnic as the (lower) cafe menu seemed basic and uninspired. Plenty of picnic tables and benches.
The gift shop carries some quality goods, not just the usual kitsch.
In mid August through September, migrating shorebirds arrive on the mud flats to feed on tiny shrimp to prepare for their 4 day non-stop flight to South America - bring your binoculars!
