Nice quiet state park - so peaceful! While we were there, this seemed to be a popular one night stop over for many campers - i assume because it is so close to I-10. If you are thinking of this, plan an extra day and relax and enjoy the park!

There are armadillos everywhere - and they aren't particularly shy :-) We were here at the beginning of turkey roost when a portion of the trails on the river bottom were only open from 10 am to 3 pm. We did not see any turkeys, but we did see fox, Whitetail deer, Axis deer, a coral snake, and wild hogs in the river (and of course, armadillos!)

There are a number of trails and bird blinds. If you like Hiking, the Overlook Trail was our favorite - nothing like the other trails. The river is a nice short (.3 miles) hike from the campsite - or you can drive to a parking area for easy access. During Turkey Roost (Oct-March) you cannot hike to the river before 10 am or after 3 pm - Turkeys need their beauty rest - but you can access the river via the parking areas noted.

Verizon cell service was not good (except on the top of the overlook trail). I was generally able to get 3G coverage; my husband had no service on his older iphone. I also had an older hotspot which was unable to pick up a signal, so I went to town to do my work. The wireless at the HQ is pretty weak.

Speaking of Town - there is a nice "farmers market" in Junction on Saturday mornings most of the year - go hungry! there weren't many farmers, but there was a great variety of prepared foods - from Tamales to kolaches to english meat pies, decorated focaccia bread..... If you go, do not park under any pecan trees - I had a dead limb fall out of one onto the truck!
