We planned to stay at this site on March 6th. There is no disbursed camping along the Forest Service Road. All campsites were at the end of the road in a loop. There were at least 8 regular campsites and a section that was handicapped accessible. The camp areas generally had a small parking area next to the drive and the tables and pads are blocked off by boulders, making it more practical for tent camping. There were a couple of sites we might have been able to fit our teardrop into, but the campground was full. There was a decent toilet and some trash bins. It seemed that if you were not able to get a riverfront campsite, you would not be able to access the water. Due to the popularity and close proximity of the sites, we will not be back.

We stayed overnight as we were driving from Texas to Georgia. The office staff was very friendly and helped us pick the right site. Site 45 is just a short walk to the bathrooms and is tucked away between the vegetation giving some privacy and blocking out the sounds of the highway. The site was level and easy to back into.
The bathrooms were very nice and the showers were clean and had hot water.

I love campgrounds that have scenic views or access to hiking trails without having to drive once you pull into your site. This campground has both. Right next to campsite 8 is a trail connection to the Foster Falls overlook. We continued on to hike a two mile loop. There was beautiful scenery along the way and we watched the rock climbers scale the cliffs. The campsites were nice with many having a decent amount of space between them. Most were level. I would give the campground five stars if the bathrooms were updated.

This campground is one of our favorites. There are multiple dispersed campsites, each one offers a different experience. We originally planned to stay at a camp site near a waterfall on FSR367, but it is closed through April 1. We ended up staying at the group camp site at the intersection of Blue Valley Road and FS79C. Typical of group sites, there was a little bit of trash scattered around. Other than that, it was a very nice, open area with a fire pit, lantern hook and picnic table. There are two other campsites on either side. We had no problems driving on the well maintained road even after it snowed 4.5 inches on us during the night.

Be warned- After heavy rains the unimproved sites 86-98 will be inundated with water. It had rained two days before we arrived on March 24, 2022. Every site from 86 to 98 had standing pools of water. The back-in sites had nowhere to pitch a tent except on the asphalt. At the pull through sites, the flat wooded areas behind the asphalt were unusable but the area between the drive and the road was. At our site, #91, the flat area with the picnic table and firepit was a standing pool of water. We moved them both to the higher but uneven ground to the side of the asphalt pad. By the end of our stay five days later, the standing water was gone but it was still a bit muddy. With that warning in mind, these sites are the best options in the park if you are looking for privacy and the feeling of camping in nature. Our teardrop fit nicely on the asphalt pad and we enjoyed walking to the lake, sugar mill ruins and along the nature trail. Unfortunately, the Alligator Marsh Boardwalk was closed due to extensive hurricane damage.
The closest bathrooms were in good shape and kept clean. Plenty of hot water in the showers. The level of cleanliness was especially impressive when a tidal wave of group campers flooded the park over the weekend.
There is so much to do at the park and surrounding area that we never had the chance to cross the lake to New Orleans. We completely enjoyed our stay at the park and will come back again if the weather is right.

We stopped for the night on our way to Rutherford Beach. We arrived after 5:00 with no reservations so we checked the board at the entry station for available sites. We chose site 88 in the unimproved section because it is pull through. Even though it had rained just two days before we arrived, all the unimproved sites were dry (see our May 2022 review). Bathrooms were clean and warm. Sorry we couldn’t spend more time here.
