You can’t beat this spot. Across from Anvil, and better and bigger. Mid August is probably a great time to go and we got to hear the water throughout the night. We stayed here so we were close to the Ice Lake Basin Trail. Verizon and TMobile coverage was great, our camping neighbors were great, and it was one of the most beautiful boondocking places we have been. Unfortunately we saw some horrible campers who cut down trees so that they could have a view of the water. That really makes me mad and sad at the same time. You shouldn’t destroy earth for your ego. But I digress. This is a great, quiet spot a couple miles from down town Silverton, just off the 550. We were able to visit several hikes in the area and have a great week in Silverton. Close to Ouray as well!

This is a larger station, so more room to navigate. We came here after leaving Flagstaff, as that Giant station is tight. There is one RV dump station here, and it was empty, so easy to pull in. The dump is located on the Dynamite side, directly opposite the CVS. They have clean restrooms as well.

All up and down the 751 road has spots you can camp, or dirt roads that take you further in the forest to free sites. Summer is crowded. Not sure how the Tinder fire affected the area but we're going back next month. There's plenty of room and you can have as much or as little privacy as you want. It's 2-3 miles from the reservoir which expanded their parking and boat launch.

There's plenty of shade trees available, so it stays cool. Better to arrive in daylight so you can see where you're driving. Some of the dirt roads are better than others, so you should scout it out. Some are right off of 751, so you could take a larger rig.

Be careful during monsoon season as rain can make it muddy and hard to get out.

Both of these 2 dispersed campgrounds are tough. Rough roads, and really only set up for tents. If you happened to go up on a Thursday morning, you might be in luck, but come up real early Friday morning and they are all gone. Like another poster said, there are far better campsites further west. Thumb Butte or Copper Basin. But, in a pinch, or if you are early and nab one, it’s at least free.

If you go 15 miles north on the 260 and make a right into the Ponderosa Pines campground, but just keep going past that until it dead ends at a T. There’s one big spot on the left and if you go right, there are about 14 dispersed campsites . Most of them are on the North side, but there are 3 on the south side. Most of the south side belongs to that farm. You’ll see cows along the fence line. There are also many tent sites if you have a good 4x4. There were at least 14 RV’s and about 6 tents there this weekend. Most of the RV spots were easy to get in and out of, we saw large motor homes, and toy haulers, all sizes.

We walked all up and down this area, and there was only one place on the side of the road that was really trashy. Someone must have come and picked up the trash.

The great thing is, if all the sites are full, you could always get back on the 260 at the end of the road. We stayed about 1 mile in, right next to a small creek. We saw the big site this review talks about, and there was a nice sized travel trailer there. At our site, you could put your feet in and get wet, but that’s about it. The shade was beautiful and you could hike in various trails in the area. It’s within walking distance from Hell’s Gate and probably 5 miles from Bear Flat. You also could walk to Ponderosa Pines campground. Our exact spot was 34.2811151, -111.1312905

Most of the spots are large and could accommodate multiple RV’s if you had a group gathering. Not much cell service, 2 bars with T Mobile and Verizon, but it was enough to receive texts/calls and checking in our beers on the app Untappd. All the sites had man made fire rings too, but there are no fires allowed now. It got cold overnight, and warmed up to 80 degrees.

As I mentioned, there were some irresponsible campers, who left trash, but for the most part it was ok. We cleaned up any trash we found to try to keep it nice for the next campers. It was great to get out of the house and we had a perfect weekend!

Honestly, I didn’t experience anything the prior reviews stated. Yes, it’s an outdated resort, but you have the ability to camp right on the water. The creek is big enough to get sufficiently wet and stay cool. Bring some tubes and ‘flow’ down the waters. The water goes up to your waist (at least that’s what we experienced) and you could hear the rushing waters at night. It was peaceful.

No real cell service, you could walk up the hill and get it if necessary, as well as go to a fun wine bar with good food.

The younger guy working there was really helpful, he was constantly trying to guide people to their spots or attend to their needs. Really nice guy. The woman definitely lacked some friendliness, she was pretty cranky our whole stay, but her husband was really nice.

It’s a sandy location, shady with trees and peaceful. Only exception to that was the family a couple sites down who refused to tie up their dogs and they were constantly on our site scaring our kids.

But overall, a really pretty peaceful site. Definitely go across the street to see the hatchery’s And the beautiful bird sanctuary.

All other reviews are pretty spot on. Tight spaces, but you didn't feel cramped. Clean and super nice restrooms. It's nice to be close to downtown Columbus.

Most sites are large and not too close together, so its nice to not be on top of your neighbors. Some of the back in spaces are hard to get into with RVs or they aren't level. We started at A16 and moved to B2, a pull through. But the trees on this site were low, so we had to back it up to get out. Some pull throughs have plenty of tree clearance. A sites are closest to the road and 260 is quite noisy. You can hear the traffic all night. Your best bet is to pick a D site.

Lots of trees around for shade and during monsoon season, it was nice and cool. We were able to wrap long dog leashes around for our dogs to have plenty of space for them to hang out.

There are plenty of pit toilets around all the sites that were well stocked. Firewood for sale for $7. Camphosts were nice, friendly and helped us back out. Cell phone reception can be spotty, but it works most of the time.

We spent a wonderful week at this beautiful lake. It's part Guadalupe River meeting Canyon Lake. The campground is spacious and spread far apart (one side for RV's, one for tents) so you could get a good couple of miles just walking it. There are several hiking trails nearby, we did those too.

We were able to park at the boat launch near the tent sites so we could launch our kayaks each day. The water was low. Otherwise, it might be doable by your site if the levels rise again.

There's a Lowes grocery store in town, with everything you would need, albeit slightly higher prices since they are a little town. New Braunfels is an amazingly cute, quaint German town. A must stop!!! Great restaurants including Krauses biergarten, which is right next door to the Farmers Market. If here on a Saturday, this is another must stop. Awesome produce, meats and food. Great town to walk around in and explore. If you like beer, don't pass up Guadalupe Brewing!

Tin Top was a cute burger joint next to an ice cream parlor, nice stop for kids with great prices! If you're an Elk, don't miss the New Braunfels Elks lodge. One of the more active ones we've been to.

You're also only 30-45 minutes from San Antonio, depending on where you want to go. If you need to visit SA, this isn't a bad choice.

Internet with Verizon and T Mobile worked well. Most sites were lever and its convenient to have the extra parking space. You dont see that at a lotcof campgrounds. The bathrooms were clean by the RV side and showers were hot. There's garbage dumpsters everywhere, so you'll always have a place to put trash.

Great stay!

This is a really beautiful state park. The sites are spacious, especially in the FHU area. Check in was a breeze, the hosts gave us a packet of info, including hiking and answered our questions about the area. We had privacy and some shade. It was unseasonably hot in early April, so we were glad to run our air conditioner. There are several great trails that you can take directly from the campground and we did them all.

The bird blinds are the highlight of the park. Both were amazing and we saw so many birds, definitely worth coming here for that.

It wasn't too crowded, probably because it was April, so it was pretty quiet. It's close to the observatory, which is pretty cool, and you can reserve a star gazing night. Also close to Fort Davis National Historic site (or you can hike there from the campground) as well as the town of Fort Davis.

There's a great laundry facility right in town that is also very reasonably priced. The grocery store was reasonably priced and was well-stocked, including having many RV items and/or grilling items. There's a thrift store in town that supports the local humane society. We got some books and cooking items there, so it was great!

Fort Davis was our favorite site to see, as well as all of our hikes. You can take Skyline Drive at sunset to enjoy the view.

Unfortunately the restaurant was closed for renovations, not sure when they will re-open again. The bathrooms were outdated, but clean and we took showers there a couple of times. I love a free shower!

They do offer public wifi, which was enough for us to check emails, but you'd need to hike up the mountain or go into town for any service.
