We arrived at sunset. No one was here. Mainly a big parking lot loop with picnic tables on the other side of fencing so we pulled up to the closest opening by the closest picnic table. There were 3 bathrooms, one of which was flush toilets with paper and a Soni and it had solar lighting at night.

First of all, navigating through their website to find an available spot is a bit of a nightmare. Then Google map directions don’t guide you far enough down the road to get to the park. The dump station at the front of the park is obscure and no hose available for a rinse down of stuff. The sights themselves are nice but the site picnic table is quite a distance from the actual Site. It’s a beautiful setting along the water with several large trees. We arrived on a Sun evening and there was a lot of boat traffic with loud music playing as they raced up and down the waterway, even at dusk. There were several empty sites along the water, even though the reservation sites said they were full🤔. It’s a long road down to the park.

This was a quiet overnight spot located not too far from interstate. There were just a few other campers in the area which seemed to be mostly construction workers from the roads. The camp host, Dave, was very friendly and came right over to greet us when we came in to show us to our spot. There were a lot of flies everywhere while we were trying to get dinner but once the dark settled in, they disappeared. Luckily, not too many mosquitoes took their place. Can’t beat water and electric for a quiet night for $20!
Made our reservation online the day before. Campground had lots of trees and sites were spaced out nicely. We had a nice pull thru site that was level but some sites didn't look to level. Bathrooms were clean and had GREAT hot showers with a lot of water pressure and separate changing area that stays dry while you're showering. Also had 2 large stainless steel sinks in a common area to wash dishes. We didn't hear too much traffic noise late at night when trying to sleep. Campground Host was friendly.

WE arrived after dark so it was a bit hard to find. It's a big park that is split by R166 but look for the boat ramp signs on the East side of the river and you'll find the camping spots. The front of the area is for Day picnic use but behind the picnic pavilion is where you'll find the sites in a loop road. There were several spots with water and electric and only 2 other campers in the campground on a Sat night. You just pick any available spot. The spots were wide open with several trees for shade but no privacy, had paved asphalt pads so pretty level, some with a picnic table and some with makeshift rock firerings. Spots are only $10 a night with no pay Station, just police that may come by to collect it and give a receipt. BE AWARE that there are NO BATHROOMS here, just some port-a-potties that I didn't go in. It did look like they were doing some construction so maybe they were building some. 😄 The cute little town of Baxter Springs where it's located is just off historic Route 66.

This was a beautiful campground with a variety of sites. Our site was among the trees and we were able to get a level spot. Bathrooms were clean and had decent showers with nice, hot water. Was within walking distance to Johnston Canyon hikes and bar/grill. Free firewood although you pay $10/ night for the rights to having a fire and ring.
