Palo Duro Canyon is in our “backyard” so we frequent the State Park regularly throughout the year. We love venturing down into the canyon to camp or just simply spend the day. There are hiking trails for all types whether you are an extreme hiker or one who prefers to stroll along. Palo Duro Canyon State Park is great at having activities planned too so make sure to check out their Facebook page for upcoming events. We recently ventured down there for a “Snipe hunt” at Easter that was wonderful! It was a unique experience getting to hunt the campground at night for Snipe Eggs (Easter Eggs). We highly recommend this park to anyone passing through or looking for a destination. The views and scenery are truly breath taking. If you are camping during the summer bug spray, water, and sun visors are highly recommended. The Texas heat is alive and well but very doable when prepared. We love this little slice of paradise!

We stayed at the Comanche campground St. Patrick’s Day weekend and absolutely fell in love with the State Park. Shortly after arriving/check-in we went with the Park Rangers to feed the longhorns. It was such a unique experience and my kids loved every bit of it. The longhorns are very gentle and are good with dogs being around as well which was an added bonus since our dog goes camping with us. The park is well maintained and is a good place to just kick back and relax. Our kids played at the playground located in the Comanche campsites and were able to just be kids which was awesome. We also fished at Lake Copper Breaks and Big Pond. Both were great spots to just hang out and fish. Our favorite fishing spot was Big Pond though since it is a little more secluded. We highly recommend this park to anyone wanting some quiet time and looking for a place to really see the stars. With Copper Breaks State Park being an International Dark Sky Location the amount of stars we were able to see was breath taking. We will be going back soon!
