We planned to stay a few nights but moved after just one. There are 4-5 spots which are all shaded, we use solar so we like to have at least partial sun. There are not fire rings, just fire piles. It seems people burn trash so they are filled with broken glass and trash. We have young children and the glass was scattered all around so it felt unsafe for them to be out and play. That said, it is near the state park and blue ridge mountains so the location is good.

Most sites are best for tents, you park near the road and walk a bit down to your site. There are 3 sites that fit trailers/RV’s. They are large and can easily accommodate 2 rigs. Sites are right on the water, ours had a little beach area which was perfect for swimming and tubing. There is lots of space between campers, phone service, a pit toilet and it’s free! Our the best free site I’ve ever found.

This camp was such a treat for our family (kids are 12, 9 and 7). We typically prefer dispersed camping but couldn’t find anything in the area so we ended up here. The kids were thrilled to have a huge field to play in with the supplied soccer balls, bat mitten, bats, lawn games and playground. A creek surrounds the field so most sites have a little beach front. All sites have a picnic table and fire ring and fire wood is available to purchase. The sites are not paved, it’s an old pasture but they are reasonably level and we had no problem with our airstream nor did our family with a 31 ft rv. Sites have hookups and there are bathrooms and a shower. We also enjoyed that we were only 15 minutes walk to connect with a trail into Stone Mountain park. I’d definitely recommend this campground :)

This was not far off the road and really nice for a free campground. Each site has a table and shade. They were all full when we arrived but we pulled in front of the gate and that was great too. I can’t get over that this was free, I’ve seen many sites in rough shape cost a bit and this was lovely.
