We stayed here on Dec. 22, 2020. Only three other parties were camping here at the time.

PROS:
- Nice views
- Check-in gate staff were helpful and friendly
- Good cell coverage
- This park is a great place if traveling through or if you want to explore the area
- Right off the interstate and close to services and St. George but no Interstate noise because the campground is located down off the Interstate and is protected from noise by a cliff.
- All sites have tent pads, covered picnic tables, and fire pits. The grills have scrapers attached. Nice touch!
- Clean bathrooms / no showers

CONS:
- Gates auto close at 9 pm so not great, as mentioned by others, if you are exploring the area and are out late.
- There is a local road right next to the park that sees a fair amount of traffic but was quiet at night.
- As others have mentioned, some sites are not level and some sites have steep back-in drives.
- The campground is below a west facing cliff so the sun goes down early although this would be a good thing in the summer.

MISC.
- Some sites have hookups ($38) and some do not ($25)
- Sites can be reserved through the Utah State Parks Reserve America system
- Water is available from hydrants throughout the campground
- Site 22 is a level pull through site with no hookups facing the reservoir (see photo)
- See the Campendium 360 degree drive through video

We stayed here Christmas Eve 2020.
We paid the additional $5 reservation fee. $35 was a bit pricey but they have the reservation system down to a T.
This is a nice state park with very nice, helpful staff at checkin.

This is one of the few state parks in AZ that wasn’t completely booked during the week between Xmas and New Years. We reserved this spot not knowing how full it would be but there ended up being a few spots still available that evening.
• Three-loop campground
• Large paved sites
• Clean and the gravel picnic table area was raked
• Each site also had a large tent pad
• Hookups only
• No water as others have reported. Wells have been super low. Bring full tanks.
• Toilets and showers available but water conservation strongly encouraged.
• Lots of places to walk the dog without getting spiked.

Would definitely stay here again and do some of the hikes.

The park itself was quiet but some road noise can be heard. The stream of cars along the interstate is visible but the noise was not too bad. The downside is that trains run periodically through the day and night.

Totally agree with other reviewers! Really nice little campground tucked into a north facing canyon with lots of large vegetation for privacy. Awesome rock formations! A small stream flows through the middle of the campground. The photos do not do it justice.

We stayed here on November 21st. Had the place to ourselves. Water and flush toilets were shut off for the season but a very clean vault toilet was available (located at about site 21). As the campground faces north it gets dark and cold early in winter (campground is open weather/snow permitting). However, this would be a good feature in summer.

We were headed south on I-15 but well worth the 12 mile detour to stay here right off of I-70.

- Some road noise when outside but didn't notice it at night in the trailer
- Most sites private and mostly level
- A variety of sites - pull-through and various sized back-in sites
- Good gravel road about a mile in and all sites were nice
- Several double sites (double the price) and one site that could accommodate a larger trailer / RV (site 14?)
- Your campground tag gets you into the park museum and trails (bring the tag with you to show at front desk)
- Good Verizon coverage

Loved this place in the middle of nowhere! So quiet. Imagining what it was like for the people living here so long ago.

The canyon rim ruins trail connects to the campground. Trails to other ruins are located either via a longer hike or a close drive. Very close drive to Canyon of the Ancients.

We were here on Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2021. This 31 site first-come first-served campground (NO HOOKUPS) was about half-full by early afternoon. Most sites are fairly narrow pull-offs (as mentioned by other reviewers, some more level than others and may require some leveling equipment). Sites have a nice picnic table, sand tent pad, and fire-pit. Most have sun shelters.

Most of these pull-off sites accommodate either vehicles with tents, vans, or small trailers. Our 16 foot trailer and truck fit in pull-off site #6 with no problem. There were 5 or 6 RV ONLY sites that looked level (most were taken by about 2:30pm). None looked like they could accommodate larger rigs, ie. large 5th wheels or class A.

A bit convoluted to get to from the south/southeast (Shiprock). Fairly close to highway 191 heading out to the west. *Be aware that a short section of Reservation Road heading out to the west is BADLY potholed. Look for tiny signs at turns for Blanding and Bluff.

- Dry camping only - generators allowed but no one was using them (8am-10am and from 4pm-8pm)
- Clean flush toilets and running water
- Only 5 gallons of water allowed to fill jugs
- Trash and recycle collection available
- Dogs allowed on leash on all trails
- $15 per night / $7 with Interagency Senior or Access pass
- The park website says there is no cell coverage but there is
- Visitor Center closed due to COVID

Previous reviewers covered it well. The dry camp sites are located higher up on a hill and had cell coverage, enough to use a hot spot. Hookup sites, located lower down had no Verizon coverage. Impressively clean vault toilets. Super quiet, lots of water fowl. People driving in to fish in the evening and morning. Only two other campers staying in the developed sites. This campground is open year round and is free from October 1- April 30. No electricity, water, dump site, or camphost available during this time frame.

Nicer than anticipated! Beautiful historic site overlooking the Snake River. There are two camping loops. Only the upper loop is open in winter, first come first served (walk up). All but one of 21 (upper) sites have hookups. The centrally located bathroom has one stall open with hot water. Not sure if the shower was closed due to COVID-19 or seasonal. Nice gravel sites but only a few sites accessible to big rigs. One other travel trailer in the campground. The only down side is road noise from the Interstate which is right next to the park. Trails, river access, geologic and historical interest (and two disk golf courses!). Big wind farm across the highway from the park.

- We stayed here Thanksgiving Day

Open year round
- Winter camping fees all upper sites: $25 + $5 entry fee if you do not have Idaho state parks pass
- Water at each campsite is off for the winter but potable water is available across from the payment kiosk via frost free hydrant
- Sites 13 (backin) & 14 (pull through) (upper loop) have nice river and sunset views (both could accommodate bigger rigs)
- Visitor center not open during our stay
