Palo Duro Canyon State Park is a uniquely beautiful state park with numerous hiking and mountain biking trails. Unfortunately, due to recent heavy rains, the hiking and bike trails were closed. We stayed at the Hackberry Campground, which we preferred due to the presence of more trees and, in some cases, vegetation between campsites. We liked campsites 10-18 on the outer edge because of their spacing and vegetation allowing for some privacy. The Mesquite Campground had some great views, but fewer trees. A few of the campsites have partial shade, but most offer little shade other than a covered picnic table. The hiking and off-road bike trails looked interesting. We were here in early September. It was very hot during the day (90's), but cooled down sufficiently at night to turn off our air conditioner.

Clayton Lake State Park near Clayton, New Mexico turned out to be a pleasant surprise. It is a small state park with several small campgrounds spread around the reservoir which is popular for fishing. Our campground had about a half dozen sites overlooking the lake. The opportunity to see dinasaur tracks and attend star parties make this park unique. The campground host is an amateur astronomer who regularly hosts very well-attendedstar parties. Water and electric were available at our campsite, but the park does not have a dump station.

We don't usually stay at RV parks, but we really enjoyed our over night stay at Haggard's RV Park. My wife called it an unexpected gem. Nancy, the owner, was very welcoming and set the tone for the visit. She suggested some sites and we found one that was perfect for us with beautiful views across the prairie to the mountains and a spectacular sunset to boot. Nancy came around offering ice at one point and, later, watermellon. There is a nice dog park on-site. In fact, the best we've seen while traveling. Our older greyhound, who usually just follows us, actually did a fe
w laps. Nancy's attention to detail was evident in the way she decorated the bathhouse to create a more personal, at-home feel. Haggard's is on our list of campgrounds to return to in the future.

Copper Breaks State Park was a 1 night stopover for us. Sites are in a open grassy area, but nicely spaced. The bathroom was dated, but clean. There was no hot water for the shower. We didn't get to see the lake or hike any of the trails, but worked for a 1 night layover.

Spacious, pretty level, gravel campsites. Some in more open, grassy areas and others more private with dense vegetation. Most sites are partially shaded. Very quiet and peaceful. The improved canoe launch on the Suwanee River is great and the Florida Trail along the river is one of it's best sections.

Rocky Point is an older park with some partially shaded and some open sites. Many of the sites have views of the lake. Sites 1-32 are scattered around a hill with those closer to the water having fewer trees. The bathhouse for these sites is very old with low shower heads and stained steel toilets. The women's showers did not have any water. We opted not to use the older bathroom. The sites in this section often had sloping and, in some cases, crumbling asphalt, down to somewhat flat concrete pads. Water is shared between sites and can require a long hose. Bring a splitter. Sites 45-63 are in a line along an adjacent peninsula and have fewer trees, but a nice, new bathhouse. We were in site 32, partially shaded and with no other campsites on our picnic table side.

Burns Run West COE on Lake Texoma is one of the nicest campgrounds we've stayed at. We were in the wooded campground across the street from the lake with concrete pads, shaded sites, nice spacing between sites, and full hookups. Whoever designed this campground did a great job. Campsites along the lake had great views, but were much closer together. I didn't use the restrooms. I was only here overnight, but would have liked to stay longer and have an opportunity to paddle on the lake.

Holder Mine Campground, Withlacoochee State Forest is a small campground with mostly shaded sites, but little vegetation between campsites. A few of the sites have enough spacing to provide some elbow room. There are some nice hiking trails just to the west of the campground that can be enjoyed when the weather is cooler. The campground is gated and is opened using the gate code included in the reservation confirmation. The bathhouse is clean with hot showers.

YMCA of the Rockies, Snow Mountain Ranch near Granby, Colorado was a great place for us to spend a couple of weeks while visiting friends. The Y has cabins, yurts, and primitive and developed campsites. Some of the developed campsites have electricity, some electricity and water, and a few full hookups. The campground is dirt with little privacy between most of the sites, but great views of the surrounding mountains. The bathhouse is old, but very well taken care of by the volunteer caretakers. There is a nice commom area with picnic tables, umbrellas for shade, and very busy bird feeders and hummingbird feeders. The staff is welcoming and friendly and the campground volunteers are some of the best we've come across. The Y offers a variety of activities included in the camp fee and publishes a weekly schedule of activities. We enjoyed the Y's hiking trails, excellent disc golf course, and introduction to pickleball. They have lots of activities for kids. While the campground lacks spacing and privacy, the beautiful setting, great staff, and variety of activities made for a memorable stay.
