To be clear, this review is from our stay in the middle of March, before Texas State Parks closed due to the coronavirus.

We needed 1 night’s stay before going into Austin, and we chose this campground. Very nicely run, pleasant staff and clean facilities. We were in a camping loop in site #9 and some of the sites aren’t very secluded. We were smack up against a family’s vacation, although they were fairly quiet. Water and electric at the site worked great. Showers were what you’d expect from a state park facility - water wasn’t super hot, was low pressure but you’ll still get clean.

We used the showers and dump station, and would definitely camp here again in the future. We only did a short walk to a day-use fishing area, and there was lots of park to explore that we didn’t get a chance to.

We stayed for 1 night on our way out of the Orlando area.

Beautiful park, lots of nicely paved roads to bike on. The campground itself was set up nicely, our site was spacious and level. The little store sells some essentials and firewood, but we only bought some frozen popsicles. Bathrooms clean and maintained.

We biked a bit, and enjoyed listening to the birds. We also got to see a small gator in one of the lakes! We slept at night with the windows open and it was a great night’s stay after the hustle and bustle of Orlando.

To be clear: we stayed here March 7th, before Florida began closing parks and businesses in response to the coronavirus.

But this campground is now in our top 3 favorite state park campgrounds in the country! (FYI, our others are Fort Stevens State Park in Oregon and Lake Erie State Park in New York).

We were in site #088 - a beautiful space. Nice long flat driveway, privacy on all sides from the other campsites. Close enough to trash and bathrooms - we used the showers, which were clean with good water pressure and temperature. Wonderful bike paths to the beach, lots of trails and picnic tables. There’s a pool which we didn’t even notice until we were leaving and cable TV is included (some other reviewers say it used to be a private park, so the extra amenities now makes sense to us). Cell service is decent, spotty in some places.

We could bike from our campsite down to the water, which we did several times. We took photos at sunset, and the next morning biked down with towels and sunscreen. The beach was really, really windy at first, but then warmed up enough to get in the water. The coastline is gorgeous, beautiful white sand and we loved watching the birds dive into the water for fish.

The beach has strict rules, including NO PETS. We personally witnessed a ranger escort two girls with their dog off the beach, so this policy is enforced. Please follow this, the beach is pristine and there are nesting birds in the dunes.

We will absolutely stay here again the next time we’re in Florida, and book for more days! One night wasn’t enough!

We stayed here for a full week in MARCH during California's lockdown due to the coronavirus.
Full weekly price: $245

We had site #112 - a really nice site at the end of a row. We had a little grass area with a picnic table and a bench, and were located right across from the bathrooms & laundry (but we didn't use either--we saw staff cleaning each day but we were in a period of self quarantine before joining my family in the Bay Area and didn't want to risk anything.)

Honestly, as much as we didn't want to be in Bakersfield -- (as in, we would have rather been touring the national parks we had planned to!) -- we still enjoyed our stay here. The campground was clean and quiet, very well kept, and Eric even set up his disc golf basket next to the RV and practiced his putting. We had also asked for a site close to a router-- the front desk staff was really accommodating to that request, and we found the wifi was fairly reliable and fast.

The park is set next to a farm, so you may hear some livestock noises, especially if you're the left row like we were. Can also hear the train, but not so loud that it was a bother.

Although we hope we don't have to quarantine in Bakersfield again, A County RV Park is somewhere we'd stay again and would recommend to others.

To be clear, this review is from our stay in the middle of March, before Texas State Parks closed due to the coronavirus.

44 - We were in this site for our first night (we added on an extra day to our reservation, but couldn’t get it for the same site as the campground was fully booked.) This site was beautiful, nice wide flat driveway, you have your own little grove with good trees for a hammock! Lots of birds in the morning - the cardinals might drive you a little crazy with their songs.

Water hookup was broken though and very leaky. We had to fill water into our fresh water tank and run the pump rather than stay connected. Short walk to the showers and bathrooms. Facilities are what would expect from a state park: shared shower areas, water pressure kind of weak.

We had chosen this campground based on its proximity to Austin, which we didn’t get to explore since everything was closed down. What a bummer, Austin is one of our favorite cities.

6 - This is a fantastic site! We were here for 3 nights. We hung up our hammock and spent lots of time outside. Nice grassy area for a tent or two; this would be a perfect site for a larger family or a group of friends (you know, when it reopens).

The state park is awesome. We biked a bunch, took long walks to look at the wildflowers, walked along the falls. The park is beautifully maintained. Firewood is sold in vending machines throughout the campsites, but it’s real expensive (like $20 a stack; we skipped on having a fire).

Staff is wonderful too. On our last night, a ranger came around to tell us the park was closing the next day (4/20/2020) but by that point, the park was pretty deserted. Crazy that it went from full when we arrived to nearly empty the day we left, even before the park officially closed. Anyway, it was a great stay and we’ll definitely be back!

We stayed for 4 nights the first week of November. Stub Stewart is a gem of a state park and we would highly recommend staying here, especially if you’re a disc golfer. There’s three courses on property: a full 18-hole moderate-to-difficult course, a 9-hole beginner course, and a hidden 3-hole mini-course. Playing them — and taking a hike through the park’s extensive network of trails — was the highlight of our stay.

All of the sites in both loops are well-maintained and fairly level. We didn’t use the facilities, so we can’t offer comment on them. Wood sold by way of machine and then tracking down a human to exchange the ticket, but the machine wouldn’t take cash and the camp host lady wasn’t helpful (or particularly pleasant).

Full hook-up site was great for our needs. No issues. Easy enough drive down out of the park to get to Buxton and the rest of the Tualatin Valley. Our T-Mobile (cell) had decent strength and AT&T-based hotspot streamed video perfectly.

TO BE CLEAR, this review is from our stay in early March. We got to the park on the same day that the Mayor of NO confirmed 3 cases of coronavirus and canceled public events, but the city had yet to shut down.

We stayed 3 nights using Passport America. Honestly, this is one of those hidden gem parks, especially with the PA discount.

We had site M-1 which is considered a deluxe site. Our back window had a view of the marina which was noisy during the day, but made for good yacht watching and was quiet overnight, and we were right near the restroom and laundry.

The campground is great. The store is pretty big and the front office staff are some of the best we’ve come across. There’s a bar and restaurant onsite, a nice pool and hot tub (we didn’t end up using them though). The bathrooms were clean, but single stalls only, and there’s only 2 restrooms for the whole park. We used the laundry room, which saw a bunch of traffic. Be prepared to wait for bathrooms or laundry during high-volume times. Be warned too that the road leading to the campground is rough and industrial — the whole area rundown; even our Lyft driver had no idea where we were taking him! But we promise the park itself is clean and safe!

There’s WiFi, but we were way too far away to connect anything, so it was useless. Why don’t they have an extender or separate hotspot for the farthest end of the campground?? There’s cable but we really would have preferred a WiFi connection.

The best part of the park for us was the shuttle into New Orleans. It’s $6 and runs a couple times a day, drops you right off in the French Quarter, and the last ride back is 8pm. We only took it there, and used Lyft to get back at night (DON’T MAKE THE MISTAKE WE DID and forget to write down the front gate code!! The gates are locked at night, and when we got back at 10pm, we were stuck outside. Fortunately, a gentleman in a nearby RV saw us pacing and frantically trying to find a phone number to call and he told us the code to get in. Oops!)

We’ve visited New Orleans before, so we just hit up a few spots like Pat O’Briens. Again, this was before everything closed because of the coronavirus. We took precautions like washing our hands carefully and using hand sanitizer, but in retrospect it felt like the city hadn’t realized the extent of the spread.

However, we would absolutely stay here again (maybe closer to the front office for a WiFi connection) and encourage others to check it out when they want to visit New Orleans.
