Perch Lake is a nicely kept county park. I've stayed there a few times and it has always been pleasant. It is first come first serve and may fill up on the weekends. I stayed in the middle of the week and there was one other camper plus the host (not present). Due to Covid every other site is blocked off. It is a relatively small park put there are some walking trails and a nice playground. It is also on a small lake. They do have a bathroom and showers which are in good condition. The park is a couple of miles off of the highway on a dirt road. The biggest downside is there is no dump station. I believe there is one in the small town of Truman at their municipal park. Wood is available only when the host is around.

Although it is necessary to drive several miles on dirt roads accessibility was no problem. The camping area is a wide open space and will accommodate any size rig and plenty of room for everyone. I unknowingly stayed on opening season for grouse and there were at least a dozen parties and their dogs. No problem. Normally I'm sure there are fewer campers. The toilet looks new and well kept but didn't use it. The little reservoir has pan fish and is fine for kayaks. No water, electricity, or dump station. Expect a nice sunrise and sunset.

I came on short notice and was able to reserve a site one day in advance. It seems that they hold a few sites for walk-ins. Many of the the sites are pull-ups along side the road and mine was not very level but with lots of blocks it was acceptable. Its a windy drive up to the monument through a couple of small tunnels. Its tempting to look at the vistas instead of the road. Like all national parks there is always something worthwhile to see. In the last part of Sept. it was pretty hazy from the California fires.

I really liked this campground. Its high elevation makes it exposed, wind-blown, and chilly but that is all part of the experience. There was plenty of room for my 25' trailer, the site were level, and the sights were fabulous. Sites are spread out so there is reasonable privacy but the trees are stunted at this altitude do don't expect much shade. There are many hiking options to alpine lakes or Medicine Bow peak and I could have stayed several days. It is first-come first-served so getting there early is a good idea. Weekends could be tougher. I would definitely like to return. As mentioned in another review Verizon is available at spots along the highway or at the top of Medicine Bow peak.
