Beautiful campsites along the water at the end of a very well maintained and VERY narrow 4 mile road. The road in is a really beautiful drive however, very few turnouts so be prepared to back up at least a 1/4 to 1/2 mile if you meet someone coming the other way. There is a 5 TON Weight Limit for 2 axle vehicles at a bridge crossing. I did it in my 24ft class C but it was not a good idea. If you are traveling in anything bigger than a van I would skip this one. I did see some trucks with very small trailers down there. Bring your bug spray :)

Access road was well maintained and no problem finding a site to accommodate my 24ft Class C. Large beautiful camp sites and very quiet. I was there in early August and the chimpmucks were out in force! Ended up with those little guys all in my wheels and engine. By the end of my stay my poor little dog was very stressed. Other than that, this place is great.

I really enjoyed camping here. I took my 24ft Class C and had no problems. The road up is a little winding, and once you get off the paved portion it’s a little bumpy but not too terrible. Bigger rigs may have a hard time. Also, make sure you check the weather depending on the time of year. There was snow on the ground and in the extended forecast. Definitely recommend for a quiet night in the forest. AT&T service was basically non existent, if that matters.

Dump station looked nice but was closed for winter. Forestry website specifically listed as open and it is not. Long drive for nothing
Stayed here for one beautiful, quiet night. If you follow directions from the app, the turn off is about 200 feet farther down but very easy to find. I was the only one there on a Saturday night in March. About 20 min drive north of the 15. The stars were amazing to fall asleep under.

Large gravel lot, relatively flat, and free are the good points. Idling truck engines and neighbors with full outdoor camping set ups make are the negatives. Just for a night ok, but the “locals” gave me weird vibes. Walmart seems like a better option

I’ve camped here a few times. Nothing much to rave about. Close to fwy and Yuma. AT&T service is good. DO NOT take frontage paved road currently washed out with impassable sand at mile 3. It’s not as bad as the previous reviewer said, but if you’re a pavement princess skip this one ;)

I really enjoyed my stay here. Signal road is very easy to find of the 93. There is a closed road sign but keep going because it is not closed where the sites are. If it has rained recently the road might be a little tricky but I’m April it was fine.
One small site to the right about 1/2 mile in. Another half mile down there is space on the right for 4 or 5 rigs depending on size. I prefer to be alone so I continued just a little farther. There is a dip down in the road then a big hill upward. At the bottom of the dip, before mounting the hill there is a great spot on the right. I was able to tuck my 24ft in with no problem. I walked the road and would not advise taking a MH any further but if you have 4WD and want to pitch a tent you could keep going.
The area was very quiet, with the occasional ATV coming through. It would appear that this spot is in the flight path of an air base. One really loud low helicopter and another military plane were the only things I heard. Another fun thing about this area was the herd of wild burros (I think). Woke up to 16 of them around my rig and a very concerned dog. A Beautiful and serene sight to see. Watch out for droppings!

Yes, I agree with the other reviewers that Mattole Road is terrible, however go slow and it will be worth it. The unpaved road into the campground was better than most of the ride from the 101. Campground itself was beautiful and right off the beach. We stayed 3 nights over the weekend in March and only had a few neighbors. Definitely would like to come back in the summer months, but probably during the week. Be advised there is no water there right now, but there are usually bathrooms.

Would NOT recommend using this dump station. Water is not potable and last time we were there they lost the key to unlock it...not worth $10
