The Pineola is quite charming as it has a motel, cabins, campgrounds (tent and RV), a small convenience store, and a tap room with many craft beers available. Some nights they have live music on their deck/patio, yet there was almost no noise at all at the campsites, which were only a short walk away. Newland is about a 10 minute drive for any necessities, and there is a restaurant or two within a mile.

Most sites have a respectable space between them, however site 15, where we stayed, is for rigs 24' or shorter, and twice during our stay we had around 3' and less than a foot between our slide and the neighbors', also sharing electrical connections and water spigot. There were quite a few vacant sites for larger rigs at the time so it surprised us that they would slot another camper so uncomfortably close (one of those visitors had a constant-barking dog). Initially, we had thought that "site" was part of the road, not another campsite. Our site was quite level and close to the pond, however we should have repositioned as the slope to the pond began where our steps landed. There are a few short hiking trails on the grounds, full water/sewer/50-30-20 electric at each site (shared at sites 15/16) and the owners have been making many fresh improvements. The bath house was clean & convenient, however it consists of a single-person man or woman shower/stool/sink room each, fortunately it wasn't under more of a demand during our stay.

Overall, I would happily stay here again, but would pay extra and opt for a larger site. There are 5 sites for smaller rigs, all but #15 place your living area somewhat in the roadway, and #16 adds that it is just too close to #15 when occupied. The large sites are plenty long and offer much more spacing, worth every penny of the difference. I would not

The location is fantastic, being just north of Linville Gorge Wilderness Area for ease of accessibility to trails on either side, minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway, Linn Cove Viaduct and Julian Price Memorial Park, and don't forget to visit Altapass Orchard for apples & beautiful scenery.

We called ahead of time. They informed us there is a 14-day limit. While northbound from US-2, our GPS suggested a right turn onto 3rd St, but turn LEFT and the sites will be at the end of the road on the left. Go slow through the intersections as the valley gutters for drainage are like reverse speed bumps. Sites are relatively level, firm-packed lawn at the edge of Duffers Club & Golf Course. Light sleepers may not like trains going by about 100 yards away, or the noon, 6:00pm & 10:00pm short sirens, but we had no problem with them. A streetlamp at each end of the lot lights up the area at night, but should not be an issue if you have night blinds. A few locals will drive by daily and will likely strike up a conversation with guests. There are 4 sites with 30-amp electric and a "Free Will Offering Drop Box" that I highly suggest those using the electricity to please give back what you take. The town has grocery, hardware, convenience stores and a saloon/grille with very good burgers & sides. Michigan is a very clean and well-kept town of 250-300 population. Devils Lake and Grand Forks are around 35 miles away in opposing directions. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will come back again the next time we are in the area.
