This popular state park opened in the 1920’s and is well known for scenic Canyon Drive. Vehicles ford Peas Creek five times, and many kids wait nearby to get splashed. Both kids and adults enjoy creek walking here.
The campground had a makeover a few years ago when a number of pull through campsites with full hookups were created ($26 per night). Most campsites are back in sites with 20-30-50 amp service ($20 per night). Twelve hike in campsites for tents are $14 per night.
Note: the campground is changing in 2024 to 100% reservable campsites with same day reservations possible at reserveamerica.

This County Park is very attractive with a no wake 100-acre lake. The campsites are typical for a county park: gravel pads with 20/30/50 amp electric service, picnic table and fire pit. Most sites can accommodate large rigs. The ten campsites that overlook the lake are first come, first served. Twelve campsites are reservable. The campground has many mature trees and is located far from highway 30 noise.
The modern shower house has large, private shower rooms. The center area inside the building is a certified tornado shelter - more parks should build similar shelters. The 3-mile gravel path around the lake is an easy hike. Fishing is popular here.
Tents are allowed at Breezy Bay Campground. However, the separate primitive campground located on the south side of the lake is less expensive.

My family enjoyed the natural setting in a large valley with many mature trees. The hike from our campsite to Vail Lake was enjoyable. Agua Tibia Wilderness is only a couple of miles from the campground entrance. We were disappointed that the pool was closed in February and was told it would not open until spring break. The restrooms need to be renovated. Overall, we had a good time.

Section K (“Gold”) reopened in January 2024 after a complete renovation. Section K is quite nice with 20/30/50 amp outlets, water and sewer at each of the 123 sites. Most of the sites are spacious and are fairly level.
The other sections (A, B, C, M, N, and Q are in need of renovation, and I heard that the campground will be renovating section N later this year.

We really enjoyed the peace and quiet in the campground. The spacious campsites have exceptional landscaping. Today a man passing by with his dog pointed out a desert rattlesnake about 25 feet away from our trailer. No real threat, but everyone should be aware that a snake will strike if threatened.
The “H” Loop is now reservable.

Typical state campground with gravel camp pads and electric service located on a gentle slope overlooking the lake. Some campsites have full hookups. Lots of trees. The size of the sites range from average to quite spacious.
The two shower houses each have male and female sections with toilets and sinks on one end and four private rooms with showers on the other end.
TV reception was poor, but I did have good AT&T cell service. Good hiking trails and many fishing spots around the lake.
