Did some overnight camping in my 4Runner here. First time camping in this area and I will be back. The road is dirt once you get into the park but it’s very well maintained, I saw sedans cruising through with no problems. Plenty of camp sites to choose from. Some were tent only and others, like the one I stayed at, were big enough for campers. Didn’t have a hard time getting a spot but I did go up on a Monday night. I could imagine this place would get busy on the weekends. There’s some trails throughout the campsites that looked interesting but I didn’t look into those further. Further down the road is a small stream with parking spots and fire rings (no overnight camping). I could imagine that would be a fun afternoon for kids and or dogs. The only downside I could think of was that camp sites are right off the main road for the most part, so there will be vehicles driving past. Noise wasn’t bad for me but I could imagine that might bother others. I have AT&T and reception was pretty spotty. I met a guy camping further down from me who has Verizon and he told me that he had pretty good reception still, but I did not verify it so take that as you will. Overall it’s a great place to camp.

We camped at Molas Lake in August of 2020.

Long story short, this is a great campsite. I usually don't pay for campgrounds but I really wanted to stay at this lake and honestly, it was worth it. You're paying for staying right on the lake, bathrooms and shower facilities, kayak and SUP rentals, and a really well maintained campground. I brought my old 2WD truck and pop up camper and we had no issues getting in. Probably the most memorable part of the trip was watching a bald eagle swoop across the lake and land in a tree right above my head. Amazing.

Some cons that I noticed, but were not serious enough for me to detract a star. You are right off Highway 550 so you will hear truckers and big rigs going by, but I maybe noticed the noise twice while we were there so again not a big deal. Also, some of the campsites are fairly close to each other. All of our neighbors were friendly and respectful, but I could imagine that may be a detractor for some. There is a full campsite map on their website, so if this may be an issue for you, I would recommend booking a campsite on the far side of the lake. You might be slightly (stressing slightly here) further away from the lake, but those campsites are tucked into the tree line so you'll have more privacy.

I have AT&T and did not have a cell phone reception.
