As other reviewers said make sure no to take any road other than Caja Del Rio or south meadows road to get here. How we did this was to put in the coordinates of the campsite and then adding south meadows road as our first stop. Another way to do this is to add Santa Fe animal shelter as your first stop. It’s right up the road from the camping spot and keeps you on the paved road.

Also it is very important for anyone with an rv or travel trailer to take a left right after the cattle gate and go around the loop that way. DO NOT GO STRAIGHT! The road is very rutted and to get into any campsite needs high clearance. We saw two different travel trailers do this. One got two flat tires and the other one broken off one of their landing jacks. Just go left you’ll be on the gravel road. We took our 27ft travel trailer this way and had no issues and found tons of big campsites.

Very close to Santa Fe so this makes a perfect basecamp. We really enjoyed exploring the city from this spot. Only reason for leaving off a star is this area is very very dusty.

We can't believe there is only 1 review for this spot! It's very easy to access right along a paved road and endless spots to choose from.

The spot we chose was perhaps the best one there. Views of the mountains and the sunsets were mind blowing. Perfect open spot for solar but also could find trees for our hammocks. There seemed to be a lot of people camping along this road, but our spot made it seem like we had the place to ourselves. It didn't say anywhere the stat limit, but we stayed a week to explore the NP.

We didn't have service right at our spot but if we biked about 2 minutes towards the bathrooms we had pretty good connection. Biking along this road is awesome, and you can bike to multiple spots to hike. Big Baldy trailhead was about a 5 minute bike ride (from our spot). Pit toilet, garbage and recycling bins are available right when you turn onto this road.

We did see some big rigs come and camp here and tent campers as well. Be sure to get a permit (free) to have fires or use a camping stove.

We were very surprised that this campground offered free spots! It is a very nice paved road and each site has a picnic table with covering, and fire pit.

The free sites are gravel, and the paid are paved. No problem getting our 27 ft travel trailer into a nice spot. We chose to do free. The views are not only beautiful, but the bathrooms are cleaned daily. Toilets are flush, and they have free showers. What more could you want for a free spot?!

We left off a star because it can get very windy. We experience 25-30 mph winds a few days. But we did have a lot of calm days as well. Really enjoyed our stay here!

We travel in our 1985 Volkswagen Vanagon, so we try to stay away from bad roads. The access to this camp ground was pretty easy. All gravel, including the spots. Even though the spot under the tree looks tempting, be warned there's hoards of bees and wasps that live in that tree. We spent our first night in that spot, but decided to move because the bees/wasps were so bad. I got stung on my hand by a wasp and which wasn't the best way to start this camping trip. We ended up moving to another very level spot out in the open. Didn't have as many bees/wasps but really, there seems to be a ton of them here, so just be prepared.A neighbor mentioned he saw a bat in the bathroom, upon further inspection there does seem to be dropping in the bathroom. But we never had any issues. Other then that, it was overall a great experience. Lake water is clear and swimmable. Great phone service (Verizon). Pit toilet. Had a few fellow campers throughout our stay, but pretty quiet.

We weren't sure what to expect because the last review posted was in 2016, but man were we pleasantly surprised! We were shocked this place was free. The whole campground was spotless, no trash in site. It had a drinking water spigot, (first place ever that we've run into that had running water at a free spot) a dumpster, clean pit toilets, fire rings, picnic tables, and nice level spots.

However, this place gets packed. We arrived on a Saturday and there wasn't a single spot open. Thankfully the nice fellow camping in spot #1 waved us down to let us know they were leaving in an hour. The campground stayed full the whole time we were there. Even during the three days in a row that it rained.

Be sure to have your discover pass, they do come and check everyday to make sure everyone is camping with their pass. All the DNR employees who came were very nice and friendly.
The first night we were there our neighbors didn't have a pass, and were very kindly told the next morning they couldn't stay without a pass.

There's a nice little hiking trail that loops through some of the woods and the river. Our spot seemed to be one of the only spots to get enough sun for solar, the surrounded spots stayed in the shade all day.

This campground is perfect for any tent, SMALL RV's or vans. Definitely too small for big rigs.

Overall this spot was one of our favorites! Even after 7 days we just weren't ready to leave!

We absolutely loved our stay at Dockery Park. I wasn’t sure what to expect as it is a county park. But wow it is so clean, beautiful, and safe! Not to mention the 2 sites are completely level and very easy to get into. (Water and electric both worked, we are here in October).

Good Verizon service, enough to do work, even had a zoom call with no issues. Very quiet, some family’s during the day, but no night traffic.

We took the route Google maps gave us (Park street) and didn’t run into any issues. Paved road coming in, then gravel in the park. We had no issues navigating this spot in our 27 ft travel trailer. No signs signaling how long you can stay or anything about camping in general, but the maintained man gave us a friendly wave.

Picked up a few pieces of trash laying around as a thank you for allowing us to stay at this beautiful park for free. I recommend you do the same!!

We travel in our 1985 VW bus and have been on the road for 3 months. This spot may be one of the best spots we've stayed at thus far! The road leading up to the campground is paved and then once you reach the entrance for the camp is gravel. There's two loops with many spots to choose from.

We arrived on a Thursday and there were only 2 other groups camping. So we had lots of spots to choose from. We chose the second loop and one of the pull through spots. Very easy to get level.

There was also two dumpsters and recycling in each loop which was a huge plus for us!

It was very quiet and not busy when we stayed here.

Like other reviewers have said, it’s important to scout ahead before you drive in. There’s a parking spot right off the road so you can park there and scout ahead. There’s about five Pull offs where rigs of most larger sizes could fit.

The pulls offs could fit one to two rigs. We ended up in the last section before the road gets REALLY BAD. It’s a large gravel parking lot. Luckily we were the first ones in and we’re able to turn around to make it easy to leave. I do worry that if we weren’t the first to arrive it would have been almost impossible to turn around our 25ft travel trailer in the back lot. As always, arrive early and scout ahead.

We had about 3-4 other rigs in the back lot with us at any given time. Everyone was very friendly and nice. The views were incredible and the cell signal was great.

Las cruces is right up the road with anything you would need. White sands was a 45 minute drive. We recommend only doing that drive when it’s not windy. Had a rock break our windshield.

Other than that we would definitely stay here again!

We were dissapointed with this spot. Surprised it has so many good reviews. The actual campground was very nice. But there seemed to be a few groups that were living there. We noticed that right when we arrived but decided to give it a chance anyways and not pass judgement. A few hours later four or five cop cars come zooming passed us. We didn't know what was up but it was a bit alarming. The next day we asked someone what was up. They said someone had been doing donuts and wrecked there car, but also cops patroll this area very frequently because it's quote "a hot spot for drugs". That information plus the endless amounts of cars driving through the campground at all hours of the day, most playing loud music made us leave. It was indeed a nice spot but the overall vibe of the place was pretty sketchy. We headed to Stine Cove which is also BLM about 20 mins from this spot and enjoyed it a lot more. Quieter, less people, and better views.
