Quirky cabins loaded with character, fireplaces, balconies, winding ramps, fun to explore and discover. Quiet, peaceful grounds, great bird watching just sitting on your balcony. Desk was helpful and informative, great place to stay, especially if you plan to visit Gila Cliff Dwellings or hike in the Gila. Make sure to have dinner at Buckhorn Saloon in Pinos Altos.
Brand new hotel aimed at a youthful feel, kind of fun if a little IKEA-ish. Good value and very friendly staff, better breakfast than most.
The restaurant is excellent, and the cabins have recently been renovated with considerable taste and craftsmanship. The view over the lake is stunning, ask for a cabin facing the lake if possible, if not just take your morning coffee out to the swing seat. Cats everywhere.
Better views of the Smokies than in the Smokies, and none of the stop-and-go traffic jams found inside the park
The cabins are really nice, almost glamping. Heat and AC, bunks with mattresses, lights and somewhere to plug in your devices. Short walk down to the lake.
We had a lovely cabin, very nicely fit out with everything we needed to cook meals, and cozy with a gas fire. Lots of care put into personally designing the space. Quiet and tranquil here, expansive views of the Bighorns, with little stream running through the property. Lots of rabbits everywhere one looks. We didn't eat in the lodge (covid times!), but wish we could have. Very glad we made the effort to call Susan and inquire, we would not have found this on the big hotel reservation sites.
You don't have to be a railroad buff to have great fun sleeping in a caboose (but if you are you'll really love it here!) Mountain views and a bubbling stream make for a very pleasant stay. And you'll hear train whistles from the yard below while you're here. Don't miss the short hike to Hedge Creek Falls just north.
Looked cool, but we hesitated at the cost. He said it's pay what you want, so we gave him $5 a head. After walking through and seeing the humor, effort and quality he put into the work, we gladly went back and gave him another $5 a head, it was so worth seeing.
