Great sites; pads were large, level, hard packed small chip stone with concrete curbs perimeters. Our site had a new aluminum picnic table. Generally good spacing and arrangement between sites (except sites 49-57 that were right next to each other) providing some privacy. Grounds were well maintained and bathhouses were a bit dated but clean. The nearby marina was huge, and hosted a surprisingly good Mexican restaurant! Campsite was not far from I-40, but far enough to be quite isolated. No hiking trails at campground. Only negative was that the single dump station’s location interfered with the sole exit.

Campground located within a few miles of I-81. Interesting arrangement of sites. The D loop is E/W and has mostly large pull throughs typically angled, but also a side portion of pull throughs parallel to the access road. D loop sites are gravel and mostly level. Bathhouse is a bit dated but clean. D loop dump station is on the way out and sort of in the way, but there are 2 additional dump stations between loops B & C. The big sites provided some privacy. Claytor Lake hosts a marina, and there are a few easy hiking trails. Camp host was very active and helpful.

Small campground with a few full hookups & no Verizon or AT&T cell coverage. Great place if you enjoy the isolation. Sites were relatively small, well-spaced but not very private, and a mix of gravel, grass & dirt-mud; our full hookup site needed 4” side leveling blocks. The new bathhouse & laundry facility were a plus, but the latter was not available for some reason. There was no camp host when we visited in early October, and the park ranger rarely passed by. Access to the campground was difficult because the roads were very narrow and poorly maintained, and numerous large trucks servicing the petroleum industry surrounding the area drove at excessive speeds along the narrow, curvy roads.

Most sites were grass/gravel/dirt or mud and had little privacy. Bath houses were dated and in sorry shape. A little maintenance and improvements would go a long way. The park, however, was beautiful, with hiking trails through old growth Eastern Hemlock and White Pine forests.

Campground was mostly tent sites, a few large enough for truck campers were small (< 25’) trailers. Not a lot of space between sites. Sites 40, 42 & 42A only are full hookup. Site 42 was a bit challenging to back our small trailer into, needed 4” leveling blocks street side. All sites could be improved & better maintained. Surface was mixed gravel/dirt or mud. Bath house could use a full upgrade. Road to sites was paved but very narrow. The park was lovely - short hike to old growth hemlock forest & water falls.

I’m rating the campground 2/5 and the park 5/5. Sites were too close and could be much better maintained. Surface was mixed gravel/dirt or mud and not level. Bath houses could use a full upgrade. Only one operational dump site for a large campground. Wish PA would allocate more dollars towards State Park campground maintenance and improvements. The park itself was magnificent, with numerous trails and access to the Allegheny biking trail. Also, two of Frank Lloyd Wright’s architectural wonders are very close to the campsite.
