Stayed overnight on our way through the Asheville area. Very unique location. The final 1/2 mile or so of road is a little snug, but manageable, if you happen to pass a truck or rig coming the other way. Quick & easy check-in. The topmost level was closed for the winter, due to the potential for wind. Middle deck was great, though -- and quiet; we could only hear the sound of a babbling brook nearby. The team running the place were extremely friendly, helpful, and down-to-earth. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.

The crowd was expected, as we camped on the long Independence Day weekend. Not expected, however: power outages 50-60% of the time, and only getting 106 volts when the power was on. I chalked this up to the crowd and the heat. Another camper, though, said that the campground has had chronic power issues for “years”, and has done relatively little to address them.

That said, the park was nice enough, and the biking/horse trails looked to be great. The store was well-stocked and the people are quite competent and extremely friendly. OK for a night or two, either as a local getaway or on the way to somewhere else.

This is a spacious park; the electric loop was fairly packed with kids, and it was great! My children would swoop by occasionally to say hi or grab a bite to eat, but were on their bikes having an adventure in a large group for the majority of the weekend. That said, all of the kids were well-behaved and respectful. The playground was nice and well-kept. Movies after dark with popcorn, cotton candy, and root beer floats rounded out both days we were there.

The non-electric loop looked to be a world apart. It was serene, nearly silent. Far enough from the bustle of the electric loop that no kids ventured over there, it would’ve been the place to be for a peaceful stay.

The store was well-stocked and reasonably priced. The people working there were hit-or-miss. One was super-friendly and helpful, but the other scowled a lot and seemed suspicious of anyone in the store.

Water was readily accessible. The dump station was decent, but a bit awkward to use and fairly far from the loop.

Overall, a fun place to spend the weekend, particularly if you have kids or don’t mind watching lots of kids have a great time.
