We spent an extended weekend at Sun Outdoors at Rehoboth Bay (formerly called The Resort at Massey’s Landing). And we had a blast!

Located on Rehoboth Bay, this resort was a great place to spend a long holiday weekend. Our paved site was just a few steps to a private beach which was really nice and clean. The campground included a heated pool with swim-up bar, kids activity pool, camp store, ice cream shop, and restaurant with bar. There’s no reason to ever leave the property!

We found the amenities and facilities were clean and maintained. Our site (# 214) was level and the full hookups all worked fine. This is a dog-friendly resort in all areas except the swimming pools. Daily trash pickup from the site is a great convenience. Even though the place was full for the holiday weekend, the staff handled everything well and always had a friendly greeting (including dog treats for our 4-legged traveller).

We had the opportunity to take the Cape May Lewes Ferry from and back to New Jersey. Driving a motor home onto a boat is an experience by itself. And we were fortunate to have great weather for our entire trip.

This is a great place and we can’t wait to come back!

THINGS I LIKED:
Private beach
Clean and well maintained property

THINGS I’D CHANGE:
Slow WiFi and sketchy cable service
The sites are really tightly packed without any trees for shade or privacy

We had a great stay at Gettysburg / Battlefield KOA Holiday in Gettysburg, PA.

We stayed in a level pull-thru site (#14) with deluxe picnic table, swinging Adirondack glider, and fire pit . The site was big enough for our motor home and Jeep. Full hook-ups with 50-amp service. Lots of mature shade trees made the site more comfortable given the July heat. The paver patio with seating and natural landscaping with well-placed boulders made it quite comfortable.

Wow, what a great place to stay when visiting the town of Gettysburg and nearby battlefields. From the escort to our site and friendly interactions with the staff, we immediately felt at home. The site was covered with clean gravel (which I like to keep sand and dirt outside), the camp store was well-stocked, the pool was inviting, the utilities all worked great, daily trash collection was convenient, immaculate landscaping, and a 2:00 PM check-out make this place a gem when visiting the Gettysburg area. Just 15-minutes to historic sites, restaurants, and breweries. Everything seemed clean and well-maintained.

Bottom Line: This is a great campground in a great location and we can’t wait to go back!

THINGS I ESPECIALLY LIKED:
1. Beautifully landscaped site
2. Well maintained and clean campground
3. Close to town of Gettysburg and battlefields

We stayed at Association Island on Lake Ontario in Henderson, NY, for a three-night excursion to celebrate my daughter’s end-of-9th-grade and start-of-summer. We’re so glad we did!

When I made the reservation, this campground was a KOA, but has since changed owners and dissociated. They’re owned by Sun Outdoors who was willing to honor the reservation, site request, and discounted pricing. (Thank you, Sun Outdoors!)

The approach by way of a single lane bridge to the island is beautiful. Once on the island, it’s obvious that this is a great place for retreat. Surrounded by Lake Ontario, it’s a secluded and idyllic setting for a RV campground.

Our site (#G07) was on the sunset-side of the island and the last of the row beside a walking trail. It was wooded, roomy, and has full hookups, a fire ring, and picnic table. I could probably have fit another RV in the site and still had space to stretch.

The sites all seem to be well maintained, the campground has paved roadways, a marina for small boats, swimming pool, and ice cream shop. We didn’t explore off the island and didn’t use the bath or shower facilities.

Each of our interactions with staff was warm and friendly. We especially appreciate this when staying anywhere.

We met a bunch of people who’ve visited the park for several consecutive years - all of whom told us there have been many upgrades and improvements since the ownership change.

Except for the 9-hour drive through three states, we can’t wait to return. We paid a KOA-discounted rate of $88 per night plus a $25 site lock fee. We stayed in our 37’ Class-A motorhome.

4½ Stars
Quick Weekend Getaway

We stayed at Butterfly Camping Resort in Jackson, New Jersey, for a 2-night weekend in late-August. We’re so glad we did!

Our site (#90) was a level pull-thru with 50-amp electric, water, sewer, and cable. It was roomy, shady, and easy to pull in and out. The hook-ups were all well-maintained and worked fine. We had plenty of room to fit our car too. The site included a picnic table, charcoal grill, and fire ring.

The gated campground was clean and well-maintained. The swimming pool was large and the water crystal clear. The store was stocked with typical essentials like supplies, fire wood, and snacks. Most of the neighboring RVs were nice and in good shape. The park has bath facilities, a dump station on the way out, and lots of play areas.

The front office staff were all friendly and we love that, especially when checking in at a new campground. When I called for a last-minute reservation, they seemed glad to have us.

This park is close to Great Adventure and not far from the Jersey shore if that’s in your plans.

There were two observations I’d categorize as ‘no park is perfect.’ The site was sandy. The whole place is sandy. This is messy, especially after a bit of rain (which we had), and makes it a constant challenge to keep the sand out of the RV. If the site had gravel, grass, or some other surface, this would be a 5-star review. They offer wifi which is nice to have, but it didn’t work very well. I realize this is a common complaint at many campgrounds, but we’ve come to want to stay connected (at least, a little).

This is a really nice campground with inviting pool and facilities. We can’t wait to go back!

We stayed at Baker’s Acres Campground in Little Egg Harbor, New Jersey, for a weekend in mid-August. So did the rains of Hurricane Henri!

Our site (#Zoo-1) was a level back-in with 50-amp electric, water, sewer, and cable. It was easy to pull in and accommodates larger rigs. The hook-ups were all well-maintained and worked fine. We had plenty of room to fit our car too. The site included a picnic table and fire ring. My favorite thing about this campground is that most of the sites have plenty of trees and shrubs for semi-privacy, shade, and a rustic feel.

This campground has been family run for over 50-years and has an interesting history that’s worth reading more about. Our site is located across from the pickle ball court which used to be a petting zoo (now the site # should make sense, right?). We came because we wanted to experience one of New Jersey’s oldest campgrounds. We liked the interesting vignettes they created around the campground as well as the goldfish pond near the office and store.

Baker’s Acres is well-maintained. The amenities include a swimming pool, lots of sports courts/fields, and a bunch of family-friendly scheduled activities. There is a camp store with all the usual items as well as bath and laundry facilities. The wifi service was ok, but costs $1 per day per device. Our Verizon cell service worked fine.

The front office staff were all friendly and we love that, especially when checking in at a new campground.

Drive time to Tuckerton Seaport is about 10-minutes and Long Beach Island is about 35-minutes depending on traffic. There are plenty of stores within a 5-mile drive if you should need anything including Walmart, super markets, convenience stores, and several restaurants.

Our only minor negative was that our site was sandy dirt which created a bit of a mess, especially after the rain. It is the Jersey shore, after all. This would have been 5 stars if the site had gravel, grass, or was finished with concrete. It’s a pet peeve, but I hate having to constantly clean up to keep the sand out of our RV.

This is a great old-fashioned campground close to LBI. We’ll can’t wait to go back!

We went to Old Cedar Campground in Monroeville, New Jersey, for a quiet getaway weekend. This is a small and basic campground, not a resort. No fancy amenities. We stayed in Site # 51 in the Fence Loop - a pull-thru with 50-amp, water, and sewer. The hookups seemed to work just fine. The all-grass site just fit our 37’ motor home (see photos).

This was our first stay at this campground — and we’re glad we went. The most unique aspect we found was the cow pasture (see photos). It was a lot of fun watching the cows eating and interacting. I intentionally reserved the site we had to be close. This row of sites lacked the trees for shade and privacy found at most other sites around the campground.

The pool was nice and clean. Wifi worked well enough for us to stream Netflix and YouTube. We didn’t use the shower or laundry facilities.

The website, posted signs, confirmation email, and check-in instructions all included a list of strict rules regarding conduct while on property and everyone seemed to abide by them during our stay. The language seems a bit rude at first, but we all agreed we’d rather stay at a place with hands-on management and compliant campers than deal with noise and unsafe conditions.

Couple of negatives and tips: The water hookups are shared every other site (at least in the Fence Loop). I was lucky my 75’ hose barely reached the distance needed. Be sure to bring extra hoses. There’s no cable TV which wasn’t an issue for us because we have plenty of streaming options. Bring your own entertainment if you’re used to watching TV.

If your travels take you in the area of Salem County, NJ, this place is worth checking out. You might like the cows and the basic quiet surroundings as much as we did!

NOTE: I try to review the places we stay based on what they’re trying to be. Resorts with manicured grounds, water parks, and lots of amenities should be reviewed differently than basic campgrounds in my opinion. Every place starts with 5-stars and loses stars for things I believe could and should be better.

We stayed at Country Oaks Campground in Dorothy, NJ, for a 4-day weekend. We’re so glad we did!

Our site (#15) was a pull-thru with 50-amp electric, water, sewer, and cable. The hook-ups were all well-maintained and worked fine. The site included a concrete patio, picnic table, and fire ring.

The campground was clean and well-maintained. The swimming pool was large and the water crystal clear. The game room included air hockey, pinball, video games, and a few arcade games. The store was stocked with typical essentials like propane, fire wood, and snacks. Daily trash collection was a nice convenience.

The staff and camp hosts were all friendly and eager to help. We especially love that.

The majority of sites are seasonal which all seemed well kept.

The only negative was bad wifi service. Our Verizon cell signal was strong which kept us connected.

This is a great campground. Many thanks to the staff for a great stay and lots of value at Country Oaks for $65 per night. We’ll certainly go back!

★★★ Quiet Getaway Weekend

We went to Spacious Skies Country Oaks in Dorothy, New Jersey, for a quiet getaway weekend. This is a small and basic campground, not a resort. No fancy amenities. We stayed in Site # 14 - a pull-thru with 50-amp, water, and sewer. The hookups seemed to work just fine. There is a small concrete patio (which I like), fire ring (filled with trash from the previous camper), and picnic table.

We went for a quiet weekend, so it didn’t bother us too much that there was no Wi-Fi and no cable TV. It would’ve been nice to have cable and/or Wi-Fi since it rained through most of our stay. I understand there is supposed to be Wi-Fi, but it wasn’t working. Our Verizon mobile service worked fine. And they plan to offer TV in the future.

The pull-thru sites (# 12-15) are packed together so tightly that our sitting area was bordered by the hookups from the neighboring site. That’s a little unpleasant. And there are no trees for shade or privacy. Most of the rest of the sites in the campground are better spaced apart and wooded. I believe most of those sites are seasonal, but they seemed to be maintained.

This was our second stay at SSCO, but first since a change of ownership to Spacious Skies a few months ago. I’m hoping the new owners make some upgrades to services and maintenance. If so, we’ll be back.

THINGS I LIKED:
The staff we met were all friendly and attentive - especially Kim, Eileen, and Jack
Basic campground without resort-like amenities
Quiet place to stay

THINGS I’D CHANGE:
Offer Wi-Fi
Offer cable TV (this cost a star)
The pull-thru sites are packed too close (this cost a star)

NOTE: I try to review the places we stay based on what they’re trying to be. Resorts with water parks and lots of amenities should be reviewed differently than basic campgrounds in my opinion. Every place starts with 5-stars and loses stars for things I believe could and should be better.

We wanted a chill-out weekend and are so glad we spent it at Spacious Skies Country Oaks. This was our third visit to this campground and it’s obvious that the current owners are making efforts to spruce it up.

We stayed in pull-thru site #12 which was level, covered in clean gravel, had a concrete patio with picnic table and Adirondack chairs, and a nice fire ring. The site was big enough for our motor home. Full hook-ups with 50-amp service all worked fine.

There’s nothing much to do in the area without driving 45+ minutes away, so make this your destination of you’re looking for a restful time away from home.

The Wi-Fi actually worked great. When was the last time you could actually say that?

Bottom line: We enjoyed our time at Spacious Skies Country Oaks and can’t wait to go back!

THINGS I REALLY LIKED:
Super friendly and helpful staff, especially Michelle and Sadie
Nicely maintained and clean
Level, gravel and concrete site with small grassy area too
