On January 20, 2017, I booked a 2016 Luxury RV rental at the Ludington East/Pere Marquette River KOA at the advertised price on airbnb (with the offered weekly discount). The reservation was accepted and confirmed by the KOA campground the same day. I received a message this week (on 2/27/17) that the owners were going to remove the RV for maintenance the week we reserved in August 2017. When I went to the RV's calendar, I realized that the current advertised rates are MUCH higher than the rate I paid. I sent messages to the KOA daily for four days on the airbnb site as well as via telephone before finally receiving an answer. I offered to switch the RV reservation to another week, but was then told that the owners have now decide to take the RV off the rental market for all of July and August.

I suspect (given the changing story from KOA staff and the fact that the listed rates for August are much higher than our reservation rate) that our reservation was erroneously priced, but the KOA staff never admitted this. I even offered to be switched to a comparable accommodation to the luxury RV we reserved. We were offered a "comparable" option at the same rate --- the most basic cabin at the KOA (one that does not even have a bathroom)... aka, far from comparable! We were offered comparable accommodations to the original reservation for over 150% of the price of our reservation.

KOA backed out of the contract and cancelled our reservation after having our money for over a month. Thanks to the fact that we booked through airbnb, our money is being fully refunded. However, this business has been dishonest, slow to communicate and beyond frustrating to work with. I wanted to share our story in the hopes that future potential visitors will not have to go through the nightmare that we have.

The campground looks nice, but the business ethics are questionable at best.
