We rode our bikes and hiked here. Beautiful views of the city and trails that can be technical by riding the cliff edges or simple by staying away from the cliff edges. Sunset was breath taking. The city begins to light up below the rim rock area and the sky dances around the color filed clouds.

Take the auto tour. There are small signs asking the way with information on how to use the audio tour. It adds so much to the drive. The voices used are various....rangers, Indians, soldiers, and others. The red markers and white markers really bring out the reality of how many died here. We didn't realize how large the battle was. Acres and acres of rolling hills, river, coulees, and meadows were the scene of obvious fear and torture. The markers show where they fell. One maker here, three there, twelve together, and when you stop to really see what happened, you begin to understand the panic and can begin to understand the raw confusion of what was happening.

Go see this before it is completely faded. The pictographs are still there, but not for long. The area is beautiful and worth the short drive from town. Bring a picnic lunch and soak in the serenity. The road and parking are good for trailers and RVs, although the parking lot is not big enough for any super sized RVs.

The Pit is on the site of amold amusement park. There is a lot of history here and in the town of Butte. The Pit did many things for this area, including some that were damaging. The Pit brought wealth to many and science grew from the experiences that were created to protect humanity. After you see the Pit, take a drive through the historic town that was used as a model for San Francisco. The homes and hotels and layout are why the city by the bay looks the way it does. Also, the mining pits are a great attraction too.

This auto museum is crammed full!! You truly have an opportunity to see so many beautifully preserved autos. They are categorized by years and staged well. The prison is a nice backdrop. Plan to spend a while because there is so much to see. We were able to take our dog with us through the auto museum and the old prison.
